Justification:
Cryptichthys jojettae is endemic to New Zealand. There are no known threats. It occurs within marine
protected areas. It is listed as Least Concern. We recommend further research on its life history
characteristics and ecology.
Geographic Range
Range Description:
Cryptichthys jojettae is endemic to both the North and South Islands of New Zealand, as well as the
Chatham Islands. It occurs within depths of 0-10 m. This species is moderately common within its
habitat.

Population
The mean number of individuals in a 5 x 2 m transect was approximately two individuals within its
preferred habitat of encrusting algae (Feary and Clements 2006). Though it is sometimes difficult to
observe, it is moderately common within its habitat.
Current Population Trend: Stable

Cryptichthys jojettae is a demersal species that inhabits rock pools and surge zones, especially in
exposed areas. It is usually found on steep slopes or sides of boulders encrusted with invertebrates and
algae.

Cryptichthys jojettae is not utilized.
Threats
There are no known threats to Cryptichthys jojettae.
