Attn: Education Desk and Features Desk November 3, 2016 No. 25 SCHOOL DISTRICT HONORS OCTOBER OUTSTANDING STUDENTS The San Bernardino City Unified School District Board of Education honored 12 students with an Outstanding Student Award at the October 18, 2016, Board meeting. Outstanding Student Award winners are recognized for achievement in academics, athletics, fine arts, or citizenship or for showing significant improvement in these areas. Students are encouraged to have hope for the future by thinking about their long-term educational and career goals. Anderson School Outstanding Students Twelfth-grader A.J. Cockrill has made great strides in personal independence and academics. With his ready smile and improved communication skills, A.J. is a peer model. He is always ready to help his teacher and enjoys it so much that his goal is to become his teacher’s assistant. Twelfth-grader Priscilla Contreras is a student leader. She is a role model and a part of the Adult Transition program, which means she puts her skills to work out in the community and assisting the office staff. Priscilla wants to become a teacher. Twelfth-grader Jose Moreno-Villaseñor takes great pride in his work and is the first to assist classmates when they need help. He sets a good example by completing his assignments accurately and efficiently. He also has a knack for keeping himself and others on schedule. Page 1 of 3 Arrowhead Elementary School Outstanding Students Fifth-grader Emily Amado is spirited and kind. She is always smiling and willing to help others. She is a true role model for her classmates. Emily wants to attend U.C. Santa Barbara and become an animator or computer designer. Fourth-grader Destiny Guevara is a model student. She is always on task and follows school rules. She applies herself in everything she does, and that effort is reflected in her academic achievements. Destiny wants to become a doctor so she can help people. Fifth-grader Joshua Peralta participates in class, collaborates with others, and meets the math and English-language arts standards. Even more impressive is that Joshua is an English learner who was recently reclassified as English proficient. Joshua wants to become an artist. Bradley Elementary School Outstanding Students Fourth-grader Angelica Del Rio worked hard to improve herself in third grade, and she has continued those efforts this year. She is a role model in the classroom and on the playground. Angelica wants to attend Valley College and become a singer. Fifth-grader Rainia Lloyd demonstrates outstanding academics and citizenship. She takes her education seriously and always does her best. She is also kind and willing to help others. Rainia (Ray-ny-uh) wants to attend Cal State San Bernardino and become a nurse or doctor. Second-grader Evan Rodriguez has worked hard to become more independent. He has learned to go up and down the stairs and carry his own lunch tray. He also participates in activities with his peers. Congratulations, Evan. George Brown Jr. Elementary School Outstanding Students Fourth-grader Adrian De La Roca displays excellent citizenship skills and is a role model to his peers in practicing positive behaviors. He remains on task and completes all of his work, Page 2 of 3 resulting in his good academic performance. Adrian wants to be a professional soccer player. Fourth-grader Dallas Garcia is a model student, always interacting positively with adults and his classmates. He has been mainstreamed in a general education class, and he continues to excel in all academic subjects. Dallas wants to attend college and become a veterinarian because he loves helping animals. Second-grader Lino Gomez practices good behavior and is known for asking how he can improve himself. He is a Spanish learner who is doing well in both Spanish and English. Lino wants to become an assistant principal so he can help teachers and students. He might want to eventually become a principal, too. -clbclbclb- Page 3 of 3
