Dear Participants, Directors and Parents,
Welcome to the 2016 American Dance/Drill
Team® National Competition held at the University of North Texas here in Denton, Texas. We are
proud to present this great event at our alma mater
and offer a great venue for the teams participating
here this weekend.
This year marks the 58th year of operation
for American Dance/Drill Team. I am proud to have
been a part of over 40 years of that history beginning
as a student in the 60's, a director in the 70's and an
executive, then owner in the 80's to present time. We
honor Gussie Nell Davis and Dr. Irving Dreibrodt,
our founders for legacy of excellence.
We are thrilled to have three generations of
our family working for us and ready to carry on the
legacy that started in 1958.
A special thanks goes to our nationals corporate sponsors including, Cicci's Dancewear, Biogime International, Tote Unlimited, Get Poms, Happy Feet Boots, ATS Tours and Travel and Texas Motion Sports
and CC's Cheer & Dance. Directors will have the chance to visit the Director's Hospitality Room on the West
concourse to thank these fine companies for their support of the dance/drill team industry.
This year we are so pleased to have five teams from Japan competing with us! Make sure to take time to
meet and greet our friends from around the globe. The awards ceremony will kick off with the national anthems
from Japan, as well as our American National Anthem. With over 100 teams in attendance, this is the largest event
of it's kind in the country! We also welcome the fantastic college dance teams that will be competing on Saturday
afternoon. Meet and speak to the college dance teams at their recruiting tables on the concourse to offer information about their scholarships and dance programs. The Dallas Mavericks Dancers will be signing autographs
from 5:00-6:00pm on Saturday on the West Concourse and then performing at the Awards Ceremony.
One again, this year, we will be LIVE WEBCASTING the performances in the Coliseum, Bahnsen Gym
and PE Building to our web site. Contact family and friends that were unable to attend and have them link to

Brief Awards Explanation.....
GUSSIE NELL DAVIS AWARD: Those teams and officers
entering in at least three team events and receiving 90's or above
from every judge. This award will be placed in your results sack
with your score-sheets and USB flash drive with video/audio
comments. Directors will pick up results after the awards.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONS (categories): In individual categories for team events (ex., Jazz, Kick, Prop, etc.), the highest
scoring routine will be awarded National Champions, and runners
up will be named as well (must receive at least 93's or above
from each judge to be eligible).
OVERALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONS: The highest score
in the division will be awarded to the Ensembles, Officers, and
Teams. The divisions include: Mascots, Elementary, Intermediate, Junior High/Middle School, Junior Private, Sr. Private
Team, Jr. Varsity, Small Team (High School), Medium Team
(High School), Large Team (High School) and Super Team (High
School). Routines must have earned at least 93's and above from
every judge in each category (must enter 3 team categories) to
be eligible for overall national champions.
CICCI'S NATIONAL ACADEMIC CHAMPIONS: Each team entered in team events can submit to our office
a verified list of team members and their current Grade Point Average. The highest GPA in Elementary, Junior
and High School will be awarded the Cicci's American Academic National Champions and receive a beautiful
award and banner.
SOLOS: The solo finalists will be announced prior to the end of the contest in the coliseum and will appear at
the awards ceremony in their solo costume to accept their awards. The solo winners will perform their winning
solo routines. Solo winners will receive a beautiful tote bag and hanging bag from Tote Unlimited and a National
Champion Jackets.
BIOGIME SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD: Each team will cast their ballot (find in director's packet) near the
end of the day for the team they feel deserves to be named to the Biogime Sportsmanship Award. See the Biogime
representatives on the concourse.
OUTSTANDING DIRECTOR: Each team will cast their ballot for the American Outstanding Director of the
contest.
TOTE UNLIMITED OUTSTANDING TEAM: Each team will
cast their ballot for the Outstanding Team of the contest, sponsored
by Tote Unlimited.
HAPPY FEET NATIONAL MISS HIGH KICK: We are proud
that Happy Feet Boots will be sponsoring the National Miss High
Kick awards at our contest.
TEXAS MOTION SPORTS WOW FACTOR: Judges at our
competition will choose routines they feel had great crowd appeal
and entertainment value. At regional contests, the teams performed
prior to awards. At Nationals, in order to recognize more teams,
we will announce award recipients, but not perform again.

patches for $5. There will be a special Nationals T-shirt while
they last. Directors come by to pick up a FREE T-shirt from
American Dance/Drill Team®.
★ Biogime International will be on hand selling makeup
products and hairpieces for dancers and is the sponsor of the
Sportsmanship Award.
★ E2 Media will be video taping all of the team events for Nationals. We do not allow any personal tripods. All orders must be turned in before awards ceremony on Saturday.
