Recreation Worker - Casual
The Residence at Morgan Heights, located in South Surrey, consists of 116 Complex Care beds and 40
Assisted Living Units. It is proudly owned and operated by a local family and strives for excellence in
resident centered care.
Under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Manager the Recreation Worker is responsible
for planning, implementing and evaluating Therapeutic Recreation programs to support the cognitive,
physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the residents. Responsibilities include
organizing activities, accompanying clients on outings, coordinating portering and
demonstrating and teaching activity techniques. Reports relevant observations of client
progress and behaviors to the Manager and/or other healthcare staff, provides direction to
volunteers, organizes equipment and supplies for activities, ensures a safe work environment
and maintains an established inventory of supplies.
Qualifications





Completion of diploma, 2nd year student or degree from recognized Therapeutic
Recreation program that includes program planning, Gerontology focused studies
considered an asset
Previous work and or volunteer experience with seniors
Completion of Food Safe
Completion of First Aid Course
An energetic, compassionate individual who enjoys working with seniors
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities







Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of the team
Ability to organize and prioritize
Ability to communicate with seniors respectfully with cognitive deficits
Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients
Knowledge of Recreation Therapy principles
