A message from Gerald Russell,
ICAEW president, 2010–2011
I am immensely proud to be an ICAEW Chartered
Accountant. I am also very proud of our institute,
created over 130 years ago through the personal
generosity and foresight of our distinguished founding
fathers. But to remain at the forefront of the profession
we can no longer rely on the philanthropy of past
benefactors; we need to do so much more.
ICAEW Foundation was established to meet this growing need to
do more. It enables the profession to support young aspirants, to
reward excellence and to raise standards in academia and research.
It will become an enduring benefit to individuals, business and
the profession, and has already taken great strides to make a real
difference to the professional lives of current and future generations
of our students and members.
I am committed to the work of ICAEW Foundation. I want to ensure
it can sufficiently meet future challenges. That is why I have made a
provision in my will to bequeath a legacy to the Foundation. I have
allocated this bequest to the bursary fund in the expectation that it
will help others achieve what otherwise they might not be able to.
Beside bursaries, the special commitment shown by a legacy bequest
can enable the funding of fellowships and important research. Legacy
gifts in these areas are highly important, as they allow the Foundation
to plan for the future with security and flexibility.
By pledging to leave a bequest, you will be signifying what being an
ACA means to you, and contributing to the lives of future chartered
accountants and those they will help for generations to come.
The legacy of our founding fathers has flourished over the past
century enabling most of us to have strong careers. I hope you
will join me in following their lead, and make the advancement
of our profession, our members and our students your legacy.
Thank you
Gerald Russell FCA
How you can help us
Making a will is a very personal responsibility …
It is also an extremely important one, especially if you have family, friends and others who are
dependent on you. Their interests will be your primary concern, but when they have been
sufficiently accommodated for, you may wish to remember the causes and organisations that have
been important to you throughout your life. As an ACA or FCA, you belong to and share in the
future of the accountancy profession. Leaving a legacy to ICAEW Foundation will help shape the
future success of accounting professionals all over the world.
ICAEW Foundation was set up to meet the future challenges facing the profession. The Foundation
recognises that these challenges are diverse, so its efforts are focussed across a number of different
areas. Any bequest you wish to make to ICAEW Foundation can be allocated to an initiative that
you feel is personally important. You can:
• help create or support a bursary which will provide a life-changing
opportunity to an aspiring accountant who may otherwise miss out;
• support new, independent and progressive research into key financial and
business issues;
• help enhance ICAEW’s specialist Library and Information Service and the
conservation of Chartered Accountants’ Hall;
• create fellowships for chartered accountants to apply their knowledge and
experience to teaching or research; or
• leave an amount to be spent at the trustees’ discretion. This type of legacy
is important because trustees can apply it to the most pressing needs at the
time it is received.
If you would like to leave a legacy to ICAEW Foundation and are contacting your solicitor to amend
your will, please complete the pledge form and return it to us. This will help us to understand your
plans, ensure we can follow them and allow us to offer you the appropriate recognition. This pledge
form is not a contract or an obligation, but a way to communicate your plans to the Foundation
and to ensure your legacy is exactly how you want it.
Thank you.
Every gift,
of every amount,
is an important contribution to ICAEW Foundation.
