December 2015 barig.aero International Airline Association in Germany Authority accepts serious criticism from airlines beeckdesign für BARIG 23. März 2015 Seite 2 65 Jahre Signet Option Politics are more and more realizing the difficult frame conditions faced by 1a airlines nowadays and seem to increasingly focus on the high airport charges that have to be paid by airlines. In the recent and intense exchange regarding charges at the Frankfurt airport with the Hessian ministry of economics, energy, transport and regional development, Fraport AG withdrew the plan of increasing charges at the airport in Frankfurt as of January 1st, 2016, thereby complying with urgent demands formulated by BARIG and its member airlines. BARIG and the German Airline Association (BDF) have vehemently affirmed their opposition to the increase of charges since Frankfurt already is significantly more expensive than other German airports in terms of charges and services. BARIG’s General Secretary Michael Hoppe: “The Hessian ministry is sending a clear signal with this decision. Aviation authorities in other federal states and their corresponding airports should also further concentrate on the topics efficiency and cost optimization. Potentials for cost reduction must be identified and made use of, a process taking place in the whole of our economy or enterprises and one that airports cannot exempt themselves from.” “The cost pressure burdening our members is immense. At the same time the large airports are recording great profit margins. Together with the airports we have to ensure that all parties involved retain good long-term perspectives. This aspect particularly underlines what an important signal it was to decide that the charges issue in Frankfurt should be discussed once again. The negotiations regarding charges at German airports will soon be resumed. We hope that the other aviation authorities in Germany will attend the proceedings in the same professional and acute manner as the Hessian authorities.” New: barig.aero member benefit The new “barig.aero member benefit” emphasizes the advantages of a membership in the Board of Airline Representatives in Germany and informs about exclusive privileges that employees of member airlines have access to. This especially includes promotions granted to airline employees by business partners. In order to illustrate these privileges, a competition with the following prizes has been launched: flights within the route network of SunExpress, a one-week stay in the Thomas Cook family hotel Sentido, a weekend voucher for a Europcar rental car and a high-quality trolley by Titan. In order to participate, interested parties are required to register for the BARIG newsletter under the following link www.barig. aero/community/member_benefit/barig-aero-member-benefit-2015. SunExpress joins BARIG’s Executive Committee The airline SunExpress is now part of the executive committee of BARIG, following a decision made by the association’s full board during its most recent meeting. Alongside the Turkish airline SunExpress, which is based in Antalya, the German subsidiary company is also active in the airline association and has its main office in Frankfurt’s Gateway Gardens. With SunExpress in the Executive Committee the touristic aviation sector greatly gains significance. In 2015 SunExpress welcomed around eight million passengers and achieves a total revenue of more than one billion Euros. The airline is one of the main operators on the routes to Turkey and Egypt and additionally serves various vacation destinations in the Mediterranean, on the Canaries and along the Arabian Gulf. Preparations for “65 Years of BARIG” BARIG’s main office has begun with preparations for the 65th anniversary of the airline association. Currently it is intended to organize an evening event in Frankfurt, invitees including prominent representatives from industry, politics and other associations. As part of these activities the European BARs will come together in Frankfurt as well. Already this year, following an initiative of BARIG, the ten chairpersons and General Secreta ries of the BARs in Europe attended a meeting in order to exchange positions on current topics. Hilton Hotels: New BARIG Business Partner Companies from the industry are increasingly partnering up with airlines and getting involved in current topics. The association’s viewpoint is that the plans should aim at putting the runway into operation in due time. Already in July BARIG expressed its agreement to the positive attitude of the Federal Administrative Court regarding the runway’s construction. “This important infrastructural project significantly contributes to the goal of securing the future of Munich’s airport and maintaining its competitiveness on an international level,” the airline association explains. In the Bavarian metropolis more than 70 international airlines provide connections to places all over the world. International Airline Association in Germany Frohe Weihnachten und ein gutes neues Jahr Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Feliz Navidad y un Próspero Año Nuevo Un joyeux Noël et une bonne année Feliz Natal e um próspero ano novo According to BARIG a positive vote on behalf of the Bavarian federal government for the third runway is necessary very soon. Only in this way Munich’s airport can cope with the predicted growth. Munich expects an increase in passenger numbers by around two million, which means 43 million passengers in total, for the coming year of 2016. Recent analyses predict that these growth rates will remain stable. For the year 2025 the airport in Munich then awaits a total of 58 million passengers. With this data and with currently 30,000 employees the airport in Munich (MUC) substantiates its central role as second largest aviation hub in Germany, also for intercontinental flights. The airport Munich shall not be discussed as a singular airport but rather in its major and important function for the whole of Germany as an aviation location. BARIG and Air Cargo Community Frankfurt “Join the community. Shape the future. Share the success.” At the end of November the Frankfurt Air Cargo Community invited companies and institutions, either already engaged in the community or at least showing sincere interest in a membership, to a close exchange with the name “COM. together!”. Approximately 80 participants intensely discussed various topics related to the community and the air cargo location Germany in both plenum and work groups. This important input can be the base for the continuation of successful community work in the coming year. BARIG is one of the foundation members of the community.
