May 1st 2017
One Hundredth and Twenty Third Edition
Next Meeting is May 9th, 7 PM at Mr. D’s
These businesses support our
chapter, please support them!
May is our Annual Lure Auction
The Lure Auction has become one of the favorite meetings
of the year for many people. It gives everyone a chance to
have a good time while helping support out Youth
Activities.
We just ask that everyone looks around for a lure or two to
donate to the Lure Auction. Of course bringing a lure is not
required but you may want to bring a few extra dollars to
bid on a few lures.
This would be a good meeting to bring a friend to and get
them signed up with Muskies Inc. It will be a lot of fun and
if time allows we will have a discussion on the river and the
assessment that is going on right now.
There is a lot going on in this picture. See the black and red
wires? They are connected to the gloves holding the fish and
giving it a mild electric shock to help sedate the fish. The blue
gloves are holding a scapula and she is cutting the fish open to
place a transponder into it as part of the tracking study.

Presidents Report
Greetings to all. Hopefully you all are ready for fishing opener. After a long winter I’m sure there is more than a few of
us that would be more than happy to get out and wet a line for a walleye, pike, or crappie. Musky opener on the St.
Louis River is less than a month away and hopefully some of the big fish we’ve been catching in the assessment will be
hungry and willing to bite. It is truly amazing to see all the different kinds of fish and the sheer amount of them that are
swimming in the St. Louis River. I urge members to consider participating in next year’s survey as it is a great
opportunity to do something the general public does get to do.
This month’s meeting is our annual lure auction which is our main source of funds for our youth programs. If you have
any lures, poles, reels, tackle boxes, etc. laying around and collecting dust, please consider bringing them done and
donating them to the club. The auction is a fun time and deals are had by all that attend.
Our Minnesota High School Tournament is on Saturday June 3rd on the St. Louis River. We will meet at Boy Scout
Landing and fish from 7 am to 1 pm with lunch served at 1:30. If you have any high school aged kids and want them to
participate, Please get ahold of Connor Sullin or myself.
Last but not least, please consider signing up for our chapter tournament this summer. It’s a great opportunity to get
out and show everybody how good of fisherman you really are and it will help fund our Fisheries account. See the
attached banner in the newsletter for details
Curt.
