Confucius Institutes in Queensland Australia Seminar on Chinese Language Teaching On October 1 2015 the Tourism Confucius Institute (TCI) at Griffith University hosted the Queensland Australia Seminar on Chinese Language Teaching on Griffith University’s Southbank campus Mr. Wanliang Liu (Education Consul of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Brisbane), Chinese language teachers and faculty from three Confucius Institutes (University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University) participated in the seminar. Chinese TCI Director A/Professor Shaofang Liu led the opening ceremony and expressed her thanks to the participants and wished everyone a successful day. Teachers from the Confucius Institutes briefly spoke about their Chinese language education experiences: Ms. Chen Li, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the Queensland University of Technology, told the audience about her Chinese character teaching experience; and Ms. Xiao Jie and Mr. Zhang Wenzhen from the University of Queensland introduced university Chinese teaching and the HSK test. TCI teachers Ms. Guo Dongnv addressed the significance of cultural elements in Chinese teaching; Mr. Hu Qiwei summarised his calligraphy teaching and Ms. Shan Xuguang shared her experiences in facilitating the Chinese Bridge Autumn camp. The volunteers from the three Confucius Institute also spoke about their work experiences. During the closing ceremony, Mr. Wanliang Liu affirmed the achievements of the three Confucius Institutes and fully expressed his organisation’s support for the three Confucius Institutes’ future work and programs. In her closing remarks A/Professor Shaofang Liu encouraged the participants to reflect on their Chinese language teaching experiences to help guide their teaching and urged them to promote the teaching of the Chinese language in Australia.
