2017 LAKEPOINT GRASSROOTS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RULES & REGULATIONS
***This information should be kept at all scorer’s tables throughout the tournaments***
•
The official rules will be those of the GHSA for the current year, except where modified by the LP
Rule Book depending on age and grade of competition.
•
BENCH PERSONNEL

•
Up to three (3) non-athletes are allowed on the bench during scheduled games, there
must be at least one (1) non-athlete that is 18-years-old or older on the bench always.
Examples of bench personnel: head coach, assistant coaches, score keeper, water boy,
ball boy, etc.
DRESS CODE
Coaches and other bench personnel must adhere to the LakePoint dress code:



Collared shirts or other team-specific apparel
Long pants, dress shirts, jeans, or shorts
No open-toed shoes
Non-compliance can disallow coaches and other bench personnel from being able to sit on the
bench during their team’s games. The Tournament Director(s) will have authority to NOT allow
any coaching staff on the bench if not in proper attire.
•
ROSTER CHECK-IN / VERIFICATION PROCEDURES
There will be a mandatory roster check-in prior to your first scheduled game, so please arrive at
least forty-five (45) minutes early to your first scheduled game of the tournament. Each
competitor must present at registration, proof of age in one of the following acceptable forms.
Coaches or Team Representatives be sure to also have the following:


•
Multiple copies of the official team roster (includes names, age, birth dates and jersey
numbers)
Non-athletes (3) affiliated with the team will be asked to check in with a government
issued I.D. to receive their wrist band
o Wrist bands must be worn always while on the bench and to enter the playing
facility free of charge.
o You are allotted three (3) non-athletes and fifteen (15) athletes
AGE VERIFICATION (Please have at least 1 of the following on-file)

3rd – 12th: Proof of age is required. Acceptable forms of age verification are as follows
(only one form of age verification is required)
 Copy of unexpired passport
 Copy of birth certificate



GRADE VERIFICATION (Mandatory)


Copy of unexpired driver’s license
Copy of unexpired Department of Motor Vehicles I.D. card issued within the last
three (3) years
A photocopy of that portion of the athletes’ report card for the current school year
which shows his name, grade, and school
All LakePoint tournaments will be grade based:
Competition in LakePoint boys’ basketball for 2017 shall be in the following age/grade divisions:

2nd Grade. A player must be in the 2nd grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and
cannot turn 10 prior to September 1, 2017

3rd Grade. A player must be in the 3rd grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and cannot
turn 11 prior to September 1, 2017

4th Grade. A player must be in the 4th grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and cannot
turn 12 prior to September 1, 2017

5th Grade. A player must be in the 5th grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and cannot
turn 13 prior to September 1, 2017

6th Grade. A player must be in the 6th grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and cannot
turn 14 prior to September 1, 2017

7th Grade. A player must be in the 7th grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and cannot
turn 15 prior to September 1, 2017

8th Grade. A player must be in the 8th grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and
cannot turn 16 prior to September 1, 2017

9th Grade. A player must be in the 9th grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and cannot
turn 17 prior to September 1, 2017

10th Grade. A player must be in the 10th grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and
cannot turn 18 prior to September 1, 2017

11th Grade. A player must be in the 11th grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and
cannot turn 19 prior to September 1, 2017

12th Grade. A player must be in the 12th grade or under as of October 1, 2016, and
cannot turn 20 prior to September 1, 2017
If a player exceeds an age limit for any grade level, that player must play at the next
highest grade level in which their age meets the requirement.

HOME, VISITOR & JERSEY COLORS
The home team shall be the second team listed in pool play and on the top of the bracket in
bracket play. Home teams should wear light colored jerseys; the visitors will be listed first in
pool play and on the bottom of the bracket in bracket play. Visiting teams should wear dark
colored jerseys.
•
GAME GUARANTEE
Each team is guaranteed three (3) games; the third (3rd) game could be in either pool play or in a
single-elimination championship bracket play.
•
RECOVERY TIME
The minimum recovery time between games is one (1) game.
•
BREAKING TIES
In a two-way tie, head-to-head competition will determine seeding. If there is a three-way tie or
four-way tie, point differential will determine seeding. If the situation is not resolved after this
factor, there will be a coin toss to determine seeding.
•
PLAYING TIMES
All halftimes and warmups are 3 minutes. ALL GAMES SHOULD START AT SCHEDULED START
TIME.

FORFIET PROCEDURE
Forfeit time is ten (10) minutes from scheduled start time. Out of town teams, please be on
time; however, coaches and game officials do not have the authority to declare a forfeit. The
LakePoint Tournament Director(s) must be notified immediately regarding a team not being on
time for their scheduled game- these directors will have final say.
Forfeits are scored 15-0.
•
TIMEOUTS
Teams are allowed four (4) timeouts: two (2) Full / two (2) 20-second. Timeouts carry over from
each half and into overtime. Teams gain one (1) additional timeout per overtime period. Sudden
Death will be the third (3) OT.
•
FOULS
Players foul out on their fifth (5th) foul. Teams shoot 1&1 on the 7th, 8th and 9th team foul; on the
10th foul and on teams will shoot a double bonus- including overtime.
•
MISBEHAVIOR / EJECTIONS
A. Any coach ejected for fighting will be removed for the remainder of the tournament.
B. Any player recorded on the official scorebook as ejected for fighting will be prohibited
from playing in their next scheduled game. Penalties up to expulsion from the
tournament can be levied upon players ejected.
C. If a coach or player is ejected from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct (not fighting),
he / she will be ineligible to participate in their next scheduled game.
D. If a coach or player is ejected a second time, he / she will be ineligible for participating in
the remainder of the tournament.
E. Coaches or athletes who leave the confines of the bench to engage players, coaches, or
officials on the playing floor can face expulsion from the tournament.
•
PROTEST PROCEDURE
All protests must be submitted in writing along with a $100 cash deposit; the $100 cash deposit
will be refunded if the protest is upheld. Protests must be made at the start of the game that’s
being protested. The tournament Director(s) must be notified immediately regarding all
protests. Please note that judgement calls are not circumstances that be brought up for protest.
•
MERCY RULE
o 3rd Grade – 5th Grade: Teams ahead by 20 points or more at any point in the second half,
the clock will run continuously, stopping only for timeouts and other instances deemed
necessary by the game officials. If the lead drops to under 20 points the clock will return
to a regulation (stopped) clock.
o 6th Grade – 12th Grade: Teams ahead by 25 points or more at any point in the second
half, the clock will run continuously, stopping only for timeouts and other instances
deemed necessary by the game officials. If the lead drops to under 25 points, the clock
will return to a regulation (stopped) clock.

EQUIPMENT – BALL SIZE
o 3rd Grade – 4th Grade: 27.5 circumference basketball
o 5th Grade – 6th Grade: 28.5 circumference basketball
o 7th Grade – 12th Grade: 29.5 circumference basketball
•
ADMISSIONS
o Three (3) coaches per team will be allowed entry without admission fee if they have a LP
Basketball Pass and wear approved attire.
•
