From Our DOM Volume 55, Issue 6 November 2016 “Serving Thirty Local Churches” Rev. Joe McDowell Dear Concord Baptist Association Members, This past weekend, we held the “On Mission Connection (OMC)” Conference. The OMC team did a great job putting the conference together. The speakers included two IMB missionaries, two NAMB missionaries and two DOMs, including myself. I believe there are possibilities to work with some of the IMB and NAMB missionaries who spoke. They are doing fantastic and fascinating work for our Lord, Jesus Christ. This past year, our Association completed a mission trip within the state to SW Virginia, and an out-of-state mission trip to Standing Rock Reservation, Wakpala, SD. Other mission work was accomplished by our Association and by individual churches of the Association. HOWEVER, I want to see our mission activity grow over the next year. My goal is for us to double our Association mission trips and for one of these to be a foreign trip. My desire is to see people who have never been on a foreign mission trip to complete one. I have been on several foreign mission trips over the years and I know this, those who go to serve Jesus do not return the same! Seeing Jesus work in the lives of others changes us! I also want to see us pursue local mission activities. There are new things for us to do and there are ongoing things happening that we can join. Again, working in mission activities not only changes the lives of the people we serve, but ours, too! Be on the lookout for mission information coming from the Association office. Mission Committee Members --roll up your sleeves -- PRAY -- get ready -- we will be meeting as one group for the foreseeable future! This coming Tuesday, October 25, we will have our Annual Fall Meeting at First Baptist Church in South Hill. The meeting begins at 3PM with reports from our various committees, the DOM report, the election of 2017 officers and voting on the 2017 budget. At 5:30 PM, Rev. Ken Kessler from the BGAV will be speaking. I am excited to have Ken with us. Remember… Sunday Morning, November 6 DOM Continued We will have dinner at 6PM and the evening session will begin at 7PM. This will be a time of worship and Dr. Tom Cribb, pastor of First Baptist in Chase City, will preach the annual sermon. I hope you will join us for the Annual Fall Meeting. If you cannot attend the entire meeting, attend what you can. I am thankful to be in His service with you, Joe McDowell Director of Missions May each of you have a very blessed Thanksgiving! From the staff of the Association: Joe & Rebecca Happy Veterans Day To all those who have Served our country! Many Thanks to the volunteers who helped with the October Grapevine: JoAnn Bowers & Iris Edmonds Church News Please be in prayer for all our churches especially those without pastors at this time th Church news is due on the 15 of every month Antioch The Brotherhood and Charlotte County Meals on Wheels made a stew on Sept. 17 with the proceeds benefitting Carson McCall and Meals on Wheels. We celebrated Homecoming on Oct. 9 with an attendance of over 90 people. Dr. Rev. Bill McEntire, who pastored Antioch from July 1995 to October 2000, returned to bring our morning message and fellowship with us. During his time as pastor he became very interested in our Migrant Ministry, and he baptized the first Mexicans in our church and also offered communion to them. Bill lost his beloved wife, Wanda, in November 2015. He is currently serving as pastor of Black Creek Baptist Church in Darlington, S.C. We are pleased to share the news that our interim pastor, Rev. Ryan Williams, announced on Homecoming Sunday that the Lord is leading him to become pastor for our church. We welcome him to this full–time position along with his wife Anna and their young son John Mark. A blood drive for the American Red Cross was held in our fellowship hall on Oct. 13. We had 27 people willing to give, and 23 units collected. This is a most vital ministry, as we are told that one donated unit can save three lives. Rev. Williams has new pastoral office hours. He will be available for visitation and discipleship on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Anyone with a need can call 434735-8101 or 417-505-9305.
