Many people will experience difficulty whilst driving
or using a car at some point in their life. Something
as simple as reduced range of movement in your
hands or legs can make even the shortest journey
hard work, sometimes meaning that you avoid
making it at all. With the addition of a simple
adaptation a car can be made suitable again.

DRIVING
Pedal modification
A simple and cost effective solution for people with limited leg movement; there
are a wide variety of adaptations that can be used to overcome problems with pedal
restrictions. From bespoke alterations to your pedals or a simple change to a left
foot accelerator, enabling the driver to operate the throttle with the left foot while
the original accelerator pedal is safely out of the way. Designed to be easily removed
or flipped up to allow standard right foot acceleration when required.
Hand controls
If you have limited leg function, mechanical push/pull hand controls are an
ideal and inexpensive solution. Fitted to either the left or right of the steering
wheel within easy reach, the device is pulled back to accelerate and pushed
forward to apply the brake enabling a smooth and effortless operation of the
foot pedals without using your legs. The systems are designed primarily for
cars fitted with an automatic gearbox and can if required feature indicators,
horn, dip and main beam functions.

Electronic Accelerators
Clutch systems
With the same function as the Push/Pull accelerator, Electronic Accelerators are
considered to be the next generation in advanced adaptations. An electronic
ring accelerator provides light non-tiring acceleration and is also designed to
blend in with the car standard interior. Two options are available: a ring is fitted
either over the steering wheel where you push to accelerate, or underneath the
steering wheel for pull to accelerate, both combined with a push brake which
automatically cancels the car acceleration.
If you have a manual car and do not
want to change vehicles, it is possible
to fit an automatic clutch system converting a manual gear shift to a
semi automatic.
A button installed in the gear knob
operates the clutch when pressed,
giving fingertip control of the pedal
and eliminating the use of the left
leg to change gear. These are a
fantastic solution if you have limited
leg function and where an automatic
version of a car is not available.
Handbrake
modifications
For people with limited hand
movement or with reduced finger
dexterity, a simple lever can be used
to eliminate the need to depress the
release button on the handbrake. An
electronic parking brake is another
option whereby a small actuator is
placed under the lever in conjunction
with a switch fitted to the dash which
when pressed will electronically apply
the brake.

STEERING
Infrared controls
An infrared system allows you to operate up to 18 of the cars secondary controls
such as indicators, wipers, horn, lights, and much more. A handset fitted with a
steering aid is mounted to the steering wheel enabling finger tip operation of the
cars secondary functions. These devices prove especially useful when steering the
car with one hand, and are fitted with a release mechanism allowing the controls to
be removed quickly and easily if necessary.

Steering Aids
These devices are designed to aid one handed steering and are fitted directly
to the steering wheel enabling you to turn it with ease. Available in various
shapes and sizes and customisable grips including a glove or peg fitting.
They are also available with an optional quick release mechanism enabling
easy removal for cars with different drivers. A steering aid can be used in
conjunction with hand controls or on its own.

SEATING & STORAGE
Swivel seats
For those experiencing mobility problems, moving in or out of a vehicle from a
standard car seat can be a difficult process. By rotating to face out of the vehicle, a
simple swivel seat can assist in this process.
Manual models can provide an inexpensive solution whilst more advanced systems
can offer additional functions such as electronic height and rotation control. Where
required, more complex systems can offer a fully integrated solution with a car
seat that swivels out and connects to a wheeled base, turning your car seat into a
wheelchair.
Roof top systems
If you use a manual wheelchair but prefer to drive from a standard car seat it
can be difficult to dismantle, transfer across and then store your wheelchair
independently. Rather than have to do this it is possible to instead opt for a roof
top storage system. Similar in appearance to roof mounted storage boxes, a roof
top system will tip up electronically and deploy a hoist that will lift and stow your
manual folded wheelchair on top of the car. When you reach your destination
simply reverse the sequence and transfer back into your chair from the driver seat.

HOISTS
Seat transfer assistance
To assist in transferring from your wheelchair to a car seat it is possible to fit
an in-car person hoist. This compact system will mount in the car footwell
and lift you from your chair, gently and easily then transferring you into the car
seat. When not in use it can be detached in seconds and stowed in the boot
completely out of the way.
Boot hoists
A popular and proven method for safe and effortless loading and unloading of an
electric scooter or wheelchair into your car. If the scooter or wheelchair will fit in the
boot space of your car then a hoist will usually work for you. There are a number of
variants available according to the weight of your wheelchair/scooter:
Lightweight (30-40kg)
This hoist can be used
in most cars. A small
foldable arm lifts manual
wheelchairs and some
smaller mobility scooters
safely in and out of your car.
Medium weight (40-80kg)
The most popular type of
hoist available: fitted into
most estate and small
MPVs, this hoist is used for
lifting mid range mobility
scooters and wheelchairs.
Heavy weight (100-200kg)
Designed for lifting
heavyweight powered
wheelchairs and large
mobility scooters in and
out of estates cars and
MPVs.
