Domain Review Meetings: What to Expect

Domain Review Meetings: What to Expect
The Purpose of the Domain Review
As the Parent
The Domain Review meeting is the setting
where a team of staff members and the
parent, an integral part of the team,
determine what types of evaluations are
necessary to get a full view of the student,
educationally.
At the meeting, the following areas
(“domains”) are discussed: hearing, vision,
social-emotional status, academic, general
intelligence, communication, and motor
skills.
You are an integral part of the team. If at
any time you do not understand what is
being discussed, please ask for
clarification. Following the discussion of
the domain, it will be determined whether
or not additional information is needed to
determine eligibility for Special Education
services. You will be asked to sign a
document either agreeing that no further
information is necessary or giving consent
to perform the evaluation as stated in the
Domain Review.
At the Meeting
Giving Consent
At the Domain Review meeting parents can
expect to meet a variety of school
personnel. These may include: the school
psychologist, the school nurse, the school
social worker, and the Special Education
Department.
Your signature of consent to evaluate or
agreement that no further evaluation is
necessary begins the 60-day timeline to
complete the case study evaluation. Please
note that this is 60 school days.
 School nurse: will discuss whether a
hearing or vision screening needs to
be completed or other health
evaluations for the case study.
 School psychologist: will discuss
any general intelligence or
achievement testing needed.
 School social worker: will discuss
whether social developmental
history is a necessary component of
the case study.
 Special Education Department
Chair: will discuss performance in
the classroom .
Parent Attendance
If you are not able to attend the meeting,
the service team will determine what
testing, if any, is required and the
paperwork will be sent home for your
signature. Please review, sign and return
the paperwork to the school as soon as
possible. The 60-day timeline will begin
once we receive the signed consent to
evaluate or agreement that no further
testing is necessary.
