MEN’S & WOMEN’S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
May 18-29 • Athens, Ga. • University of Georgia
Dan Magill Tennis Complex
Men’s Singles Round One
QUOTES
#6 seed, Alfredo Perez, Florida
defeated Aron Hiltzik, Illinois, 6-4, 6-1
On first round win…
“It was pretty good for a first round. Everyone is a little nervous during the first round of the tournament, but
hopefully I will play better tomorrow.”
On what he will take from this win to his next match…
“I want to focus on not being as nervous and to play more of my game out there. This is first round so hopefully I won’t be as nervous.”
#5 seed, Christopher Eubanks, Georgia Tech
defeated Martin Redlicki, UCLA, 6-3, 7-5
On coming back from behind to win the second set:
“It’s kind of a mentality I’ve tried to have this whole tournament, which I haven’t done that well at in the past –
I’m trying to treat each match like it’s a final, from the first point to the last point. I got down a break and I just
had to keep fighting. It’s really cliche to fight every point because I have a big game so I feel like I can get out
of points easy, but this tournament I’m trying to really take hold of that and fight every single point.”
Emil Reinberg, Georgia
defeated #7 seed, Hugo Di Feo, Ohio State, 6-3, 6-7(1), 6-3
On upsetting 7th-seeded Hugo Di Feo…
“That felt pretty good. Coming back from the team tournament and losing a tough one to UNC, I took the day
off and then came out here with no pressure. I think that’s what helped me the most. I played loose, I wasn’t
worried about my teammates on the court, so it was more individual. I think that’s always a little relief on your
game. I think I held my mind pretty well after losing the second set and having four match points on my serve.
Competing is what I do, so I’m excited about it.”
Jack Findel-Hawkins, North Florida
defeated Juan Benitez, Baylor, 7-6(4), 6-4
On upsetting Juan Benitez from Baylor…
“I served really well today. I came out always trying to keep the point short and keep the point on my terms.
My serve always allows me to do that. My first-serve percentage was really high, which allowed me to get to
my forehand quick and really impose myself on the game.”
#3 seed, Petros Chrysochos, Wake Forest
defeated Tyler Lu, Yale, 6-4, 6-3
On his two-set performance:
“My serve was pretty good; my forehand was good. I was just mainly looking forward to the match and winning my service games. I got lucky a little bit in one of the service games in the second set, I then I just ended
up winning the match, so it was good for me. IT was a good first round.
On his approach for the second round:
Confidence helps. Winning the first match in the two sets keeps you calm and rested because this is a long
week. Looking forward to the second round, and whatever happens, happens.

QUOTES
Mike Redlicki, Arkansas
defeated Johannes Schretter, Baylor, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3
On his emotional comeback...
“Emotionally I thought stability was working for me. I tried to stay as stable as I could no matter how bad
things were going. I was hoping the entire time things would turn around and they did.”
#1 seed, Mikael Torpegaard, Ohio State
defeated Thomas Laurent, Oregon, 7-5, 6-2
On being down in the first set...
“I thought to myself if I have to lose, I might as well lose right. I tried to hit the ball and go all out with a bang
instead of going out pushing. That was honestly my thought process while being down 3-5, set point and I got
lucky on a couple of shots there and I caught on fire. I found my serve and it got easier from then on out.”
Borna Gojo, Wake Forest
defeated #4 seed, Arthur Rinderknech, Texas A&M, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3
On first round performance...
“The first set I started off extremely aggressive and it didn’t work out. Second set, I just tried to keep the ball
in and get a better feel of the courts and the balls and it worked out in the end.”
On what worked well...
“I think I need to serve a little bit better. I am definitely satisfied with how I played on the court, especially
from the baseline.”
#2 seed, Nuno Borges, Mississippi State
defeated Adam Moundir, Old Dominion, 6-3, 7-5
On today’s match...
“I think today was a tough match. He (Moundir) made the game really weird and uncomfortable, but I am glad
I found a way to win. It was not easy. He took the ball really early and had strong first serves and it did not
really help me play my game well.”
William Bushamuka, Kentucky
defeated Tuki Jacobs, South Alabama, 7-6(5), 7-6(7)
On today’s win…
“I played well. He was playing really well too. My serve, was okay. I started playing better in second set. Overall, I am happy. It is first round, so you just got to get used to the court.”
Alex Ghilea, Oklahoma
defeated Constantin Schmitz, Tulane, 6-0, 6-0
On dominating 6-0, 6-0 against a ranked opponent...
“I think I was really aggressive today. My court position was really good and my coaches told me about my
opponent because I had never played him before. It’s always new to play a guy you’ve never played before. I
felt great on the court, I’ve always played great here. I played well in the finals three years ago here and it’s
an amazing feeling to be back and finish my career here and I just want to make it last as long as I can.”

QUOTES
#8 seed, Tom Fawcett, Stanford
defeated Wayne Montgomery, Georgia, 6-1, 7-5
On today’s win…
“I think I served well and I competed well. It was kind of tough, going on and off the court [with the weather
delays], but I competed pretty well throughout the match. It was a tight second set, but I am happy with how I
served and how I played.”
Skander Mansouri, Wake Forest
defeated Jose Salazar, Arkansas, 6-4, 6-4
On today’s match…
“Obviously it was a good match, coming back from a tough loss last week. The first round and this entire tournament only has good players, so everyone is tough. It feels great to close on this first one.”
Florian Lakat, California
defeated Ronnie Schneider, North Carolina, 6-4, 6-3
On today’s win…
“I think I played pretty well and its always a battle against Ronnie, we played four days ago and I think I went
on court with a different mentality, more of a revenge kind of spirit and it helped me pull through.”
Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, Virginia
defeated Julian Cash, Oklahoma State, 6-4, 6-4
On tonight’s match...
“It is very difficult to have no days off between the emotional team final and the start of this tournament. It is
something with the first day and a lack of sleep in celebration last night with my teammates. You have to come
out here to do your best and fight every point. You know you aren’t going to play that well, because you are a
little drained, but you just hope to get past the first round and recover. Then you just take the tournament dayby-day.”
