On Saturday, Hertfordshire will be staging the
third annual teacher recruitment fair in Stevenage. I
would strongly recommend this to anyone who is
interested in joining the profession or returning to
teaching. See the attached flyer for more details.
Our initial teacher training team who run the
Alban Federation have already recruited 40 adults to
undertake Qualifed Teacher Status training for next
year. If you know of anyone who is interested in
training it is not too late to contact the school and
explore possibilities. If you are interested please
speak to Mark Nicholls, Alban Federation coordinator at the school.
This week the dance faculty have been running
their GCSE dance performances in preparation for
their assessments later this term. These have been
delivered to a high standard so fingers crossed, our
year 11 students will achieve highly in the summer.
Could I remind everyone to be considerate with
parking outside the school. We have had more
complaints from local residents about inconsiderate
parking across driveways or blocking the road. It is
particularly important that cycle routes are kept free
after school hours – these are clearly marked and it is
an offence to block these.
Thank you for your help.

Tim Farron
A students Perspective
On Tuesday, the 6th Form had a visit from the
leader of the Liberal Democrats, Tim Farron. After a
brief introduction , Tim told how he got in to politics
from the age of fourteen after joining a charity. This
was followed by an insightful description of who the
Liberal Democrats are and what it is like to work in the
houses of parliament.
10th—19th March 2017
During British Science Week we have many
activities after school so that everyone can get involved.
Monday 13th March, 6.00pm
Come to the Science Soapbox and listen to a range of
talks given by an external keynote speaker from CAST,
staff and students.
The Q&A session sparked some interesting
questions from the students about what happens in the
House of Commons and how Mr Farron plans to
expand the Lib Dems as a party. He also discussed his
views on Brexit.
Overall the experience was a useful insight in to
what a job in politics is really like and what is involved.
It also helped to inform us about Liberal Democrat
policies and the voting system.

The Last Baguette will be performing their play,
‘What’s the Matter?’ A physical comedy about
physics. An unexplained cat theft from a physics
laboratory leads scientist Smithy on a journey through his
own experiment into the subatomic world. The situation
becomes charged and it is impossible to stay neutral. Can
he find the cat and win over his colleague Sarah in the
process? Will the outcome be positive or negative?
The last baguette team will also be conducting a
series of workshops after the play that 30 people can do
at an additional cost.

These are all open to the community and are free except for the play. Tickets are available from the SandPit

Exhibition at Marshalswick Library
We were delighted to be invited to exhibit our
students work at Marshalswick library. We have
selected a range of our Y9 work to showcase our
outstanding achievement at KS3. The selected items
are from our Y9 Abstract Art project. This project
is designed to introduced learners to a variety of
new techniques and the project includes ceramics,
textiles and photography activities to enable our
students to make informed choices as they progress
into Y10.
The exhibition features the final pieces that they
created and we are really delighted to celebrate the
students work by exhibiting it local venues for the
wider community to enjoy. We hope that you are
able to visit the exhibition and would like to
congratulate all of the students who took part in the
project.

News
Well done to the Y7 Sportshall Athletics team on
competing at the District championships on Friday at
Herts University. The team performed very well finishing
4th overall. Well done to all involved and we look forward
to another successful athletics season, which will
continue this term with more indoor events coming in the
next few weeks.
On Saturday we played Simon Balle in our annual
football fixture. The Y9’s drew 2-2 at home with the
Y10’s losing 2-1 in a close game, in which we were
unable to find a 2nd goal. The Y7’s lost 3-1 away, with the
Y8’s going down 2-1 whilst dominating the game
throughout. Well played boys.
Well done to the Y7 and 8 Basketball team in action
on Monday against St. Columba’s and STABS
respectively. Both games were played in great spirit with
some excellent performances. The results weren’t in our
favour, however with both teams losing. The Y7s by 18
point and the Y8s in a tense affair by 1 point. On to the
next games boys.
The Y9, Y11 and Senior Netball Teams all played Sir
John Lawes in the District League on a wet Monday
afternoon. We had a clean sweep of results, with the
Y9’s winning 25-2, the Y11’s winning 16-12 and the
Seniors winning 26-2. This means that all three teams are
currently residing in 1st place in their respective leagues.
Well done to all involved.
