so, our developmentally appropriate Preschool program provides opportunities for our students to

Ascension Lutheran Early Childhood Center offers a Christian faith-based program. Bible stories and
songs are used on a daily basis, along with typical, developmentally appropriate curriculum which
incorporates the Ohio Early Learning Standards.
We want parents to be involved! We use parent volunteers on a regular basis in all classrooms except
PK+K. Please don’t let this scare you off if both parents work! Your child is always welcome to be a
part of our program, even if you can’t help out on a regular basis in the classroom!

Our child care center is a part of the National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC) and Step Up to Quality Star 3 rated. During the summer months we offer a half day
preschool summer camp program for children 3-5 years old. Our Full Day Chartered Kindergarten
includes low ratios and small group instruction. Before and After Care are included in the tuition.
Learning takes place when children are in surroundings where they feel safe and secure. In our
program, parents have the security of knowing their children are safely taken care of in their absence.
In the classroom, the teachers provide opportunities for learning in an atmosphere of trust and love.
The center allows for children to participate in activities both inside and outside their home classroom.

John Knox Preschool is licensed by the State of Ohio through the Department of Jobs and Family
Services and has been providing education in a Christian environment since 1967. The mission of the
school was and continues to be to provide a loving and caring Christian environment, which will help
children develop mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Since the beginning of
classes in 1967, hundreds of boys and girls have walked through the doors of John Knox Preschool.
Rich and varied experiences are provided for the children. The first class session includes a discovery
time when the children explore the learning centers independently or in cooperative play with their
peers. Available activities promote social interaction, individual creativity, confidence, and fine/gross
motor skill development. The second hour presents more organized activities and mini-lessons to
introduce educational concepts involving letters, phonics, numbers, colors, shapes, and spatial
concepts, the foundation needed for a successful kindergarten year. Snack time and occasional
outdoor play complete the program. Parents are not required to assist in the classroom, but may
volunteer to help for special occasions.
John Knox Preschool offers small class sizes, low staff to child ratio, brand new classrooms, curb side
drop off, summer home visits to new families, and kindergarten prep curriculum.
