Mathematics This week, we will apply the associative property of multiplication with real-world problems. Associative Property- the way that factors are grouped does not change the product 5 x (2 x 3) = (5 x 2) x 3 Please help your child study his/her multiplication and division facts each night. Social Studies This week, our vocabulary test will focus upon our Social Studies terms. The following terms will be on a Social Studies test on Friday, October 16, 2015 1 . elevation- the height of land above sea level Sentence: New Orleans has a low elevation, because the city is below sea level. 2. climate- an area’s weather over a period of many years Sentence: Death Valley is part of a desert climate, which is dry and hot. 3. industry- businesses and factories for an area Sentence: The farming industry provides food for the entire nation. 4. equator- an imaginary line that divides Earth into northern and southern hemispheres Sentence: The United States is north of the equator. 5. landform- a shape on Earth’s surface Sentence: Some examples of landforms include mountains, valleys, hills, plains, and plateaus. 6. environment- the surroundings in which people, plants, and animals live Sentence: Mountain environments typically have colder environments than valleys. 7. temperature- how hot or cold the air is Sentence: Today’s temperature is 70 degrees. 8. natural resource- something found in nature that people can use, such as water, soil, and trees Sentence: People depend on natural resources to grow food, raise animals, and build homes. 9. precipitation- water that falls from the sky as rain, sleet, or snow Sentence: The precipitation that Illinois receives most often is rain. Did you know that our class has already passed 489 AR tests! Wow!
