Message from the AGM
Institutional Banking
Debbie Lindsay
s we move into the 2nd half of the year, we are continuously
re-inventing ourselves and doing things differently in order to
provide you with customized services. The SME is at the heart of all
that we do and we make it our business to understand their
business. We know the leaps they have taken to get to where they
are and we endeavor to take this leap with them and help them
achieve their dreams.
Through the last quarter, we increased our branch network by
opening Express branches in Dagoretti and Nairobi West. The
express branches give our clients convenient access to financial
services on-the-go at secure locations. They provide all basic
transactions needed to keep their businesses running efficiently.
Earlier on in the 2nd Quater we opened a Chase Iman Business
banking branch in Lunga Lunga.
CUSTOMER FOCUS: MR ROBERT MASINDE .
Robert Masinde is a young, innovative, tech-savvy and extremely driven high achiever. He holds
an MBA from Oxford University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Robert has worked in the
banking sector for over 15 years, both in Kenya and in South Africa, specializing in Mobile Payment
Strategies.
Providing mobile device services is something Robert has always been passionate about. Having
been in the industry for over a decade, it was inevitable that he would start his own mobile
financial services company.
Ease of access to our services is very important to us and hence why
we are continuously re-developing our Mobile Banking platform
Mfukoni. With Mfukoni you are now able to transfer funds directly
from your phone to any local account, pay your utility bills, deposit
cheques, donate to the Chase Group Foundation and so much
more all at the click of a button.
Micromobile Limited was founded in August 2013; a Kenyan mobile solutions company that
focuses on providing micro credit and financial access solutions on a mobile platform. The
company, though young, already offers two mainstream products; ‘Mobi-loans and Mobi-bills’.
Mobiloans service provides a virtual credit card to customers that requires no paperwork, history or
security guarantees; there are also no charges or re-payment penalties to this service. Mobibills
provides a prompt for your bill payments upon maturity with a lead time of 20 days for re-payment.
The Bank’s Mission is to Enable People Achieve the Things That
Matter Most To Them. This for us is more than a mission, it is a promise
that we make to every one of our clients, staff and stakeholders
alike. We wish to re affirm our commitment to you and continually
work towards providing tailor made solutions in line with your
financial needs.
Asked why he decided to invest back home, Robert was quick to point
out that, “I’m Kenyan; I’ve always wanted to do this on home-ground!
There’s huge potential in Kenya and the mobile industry is experiencing
rapid growth. I want all the unbanked to have a convenient way of
accessing funds to start and grow their businesses, especially in the rural
areas; everyone deserves a chance” said Robert.
Micro-mobile has also placed a special focus in the diary sector, working
closely with the Dairy Co-operative Sector, to provide an e-dairy system where dairy farmers can
borrow funds based on their produce.
In our client focus for this edition, we had the pleasure to chat with
Robert Masinde of Micro Mobile Limited, a young entrepreneur who
has taken the e-commerce space by storm. An innovator by
nature, Masinde is creating mobile and digital payment platforms
that will give Kenyans access to credit facilities. Businesses like
Micro-Mobile are the driving force behind Chase Bank and they are
what cement our belief in the SME sector.
The Chase Aspire retail banking bouquet is a new retail offering that
gives you access to automatic overdrafts, free savings account,
free debit and prepaid card as well as free e-banking and mobile
banking. We understand that the individual is on the go hence why
it is important for them to have access to alternative banking
options. Also in line with our commitment to continually improve our
services to you, we will soon be launching our Visa Gold Credit Card
to give our clients further access to credit facilities.
As we usher in the Holy Month of Ramadhan, we would like to wish
our clients Ramadhan Kareem and Eid Mubarak.
There are some things that one can only achieve by a deliberate leap in the
opposite direction. – Frank Kafka

I want all the
unbanked to have
a convenient way
of accessing funds
The company currently has four directors, 16 staff members and is at present handling over 15
corporate companies, all of which he attributes to his short relationship with Chase Bank. “Coming
from a banking background, I knew it would be difficult to get bank funding at this early stage.
Chase Bank was recommended to me by a friend and I decided to give it a try. Coincidentally I
ended up in the same building as their offices at Delta Building, Westlands. I approached them
and they were interested in my innovation; they were also very flexible and accomodating in their
approach to my needs, that’s how my relationship with them started and I haven’t regretted
since” said Robert.
For Robert, there’s no limit to the growth of Micromobile, “ There’s a lot of space to focus on in
Kenya and that is where I plan to give my all for the next one and a half years. From there i’ll move
to the rest of Africa, with special focus on Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
With support from Chase Bank, the opportunities are endless” he concluded.

The Chase Group Foundation as part of
their commitment to environmental
conservation, took the step to ensure
that the environment we live in thrives not
only for ourselves but also for future
generations.
KOEE’s main objective is to encourage
schools to take a leading role in restoring
degraded ecosystems and water towers.
KOEE through the Eco-Schools has been
planting trees across the country for the
past three years.
Through The Foundation’s partnership
with Kenya Organisation for Environmental Conservation (KOEE), The Foundation
has embarked on a mission to protect
and restore Ngong Forest tree cover and
sensitize young generations on the importance of responsible use of the eco
system.
In addition to promoting environmental
awareness amongst schools, The Chase
Group Foundation has rolled out a new
initiative dubbed #AdoptATree.
During this year’s World Environmental
Day, The Foundation, other partners and
students of Ngong Forest Primary School
were able to plant 10,000 tree seedlings.
This campaign is currently running on
social media and is geared towards
creating a culture of planting and
protecting trees, among the youth as
their contribution towards creating a
sustainable environment. Through the
support its partners, the Foundation looks
to take this campaign offline.

SAVING TIPS
WHAT MATTERS MOST TO YOU?
As you chase your dreams, expect
the unexpected. In life and in
business, you can never adequately
prepare for the surprises that come
your way. You can only hope to
maneuver through the situation,
making the necessary decisions
based on your training, gut and your
moral compass.
After spending a month on Mount
Everest, the Chase Bank Kenya
Everest Expedition 2014 team faced
the most gut-wrenching decision of
their lives. On April 18th 2014, 16
Sherpa guides were killed in an
avalanche, the deadliest accident
in Everest history.
While none of the Chase Bank
Everest Expedition team members
were involved in the accident
physically,
their
guides
were
emotionally devastated by the loss
of their friends. Suddenly and
unexpectedly, their guides said that
they would no longer be able to
carry on with the climb; the
expedition was over.
They had years of training, planning
and thousands of dollars riding on
this climb.
The Chase Bank Everest Expedition
team even in pursuit of their dream,
had to make a critical decision to
descend the mountain, albeit with
broken hearts.
Today, they are proud that they took
what they believed to be the
morally correct decision at that time.
They left the mountain out of respect
for their Sherpa guides and at
peace with themselves.
There will be unexpected setbacks
(sometimes painful) as you chase
your dreams and build your personal
brand or business. They ultimately
require you to make a critical
decision. It’s at this point that many
give up. However, by reconsidering
and re-strategizing your game plan,
your dream remains alive and
achievable.
Collect receipts for everything
you purchase. Stack and review
receipts at the end of the
month, and you will clearly be
able to see where your money is
going.
Sign up for customer rewards
programs. Even if you rarely shop
at that place, having a rewards
card will eventually net you
some coupons and discounts.
Put what you think you should
spend for the month on
transport, food & entertainment
aside. This will help you avoid
impulse buying.
Don’t give up on what matters most
to you.
Save money by buying items in
bulk.
Did you know that with your Naivas
card, you can…
• Deposit money into your Naivas Card
via M-PESA paybill No. 552883 by keying
in the 16 digits on your card
• Deposit money on the card at all the
Naivas cashier tills
• Deposit money at any Chase Bank

You can also…
• Use your Naivas card to pay for goods
and services at any outlet with a VISA

Invite friends over instead of
going out. Almost every activity
at home is less expensive than
going out. Have a cookout or a
potluck meal, everyone will
have fun, the cost will be low,
and the others will likely
reciprocate not long afterwards.
Plan gift-giving well in advance.
It will give you time to decide on
the most thoughtful gifts, (usually
not the most expensive ones). If
these gifts are products that
must be purchased, you will
have the opportunity to look out
for sales.
