DEAR MAGNIFICAT COMMUNITY,
As the 2015-2016 fiscal year has officially ended, we can reflect back on a successful and solid academic
and financial year, knowing we have accomplished much.
Our new President, Jen Hebda Halliday ’95, along with the Leadership Team, has brought new programs,
speakers and ideas to our school community. A highlight of the year was twice hosting Dr. Carissa
Romero, an expert on “growth mindset,” to address our parents and the greater community. In addition,
Magnificat hosted a record-breaking Endowment Gala for the Magnificat Endowment fund, providing
tuition assistance to deserving students. We also had a record-breaking Annual Fund year. An extensive,
new Summer Camp program for both boys and girls capped off the year. Most importantly, these
endeavors were accomplished with our Mission of educating young women to learn, lead and serve in
the spirit of Mary’s Magnificat at the forefront of our decision making and planning.
I humbly thank you for your generosity, which is evidenced in this Honor Roll of Donors. Your gifts
provided financial assistance for many programs, as well as assisted the students with aid for tuition. As
we embark on a new school year, on behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank you for your
ongoing support and ask you to continue that support in 2016-2017. Please enjoy this report, and know
that you are welcome on campus at any time, and we hope to see you at the many Magnificat events
that will occur throughout the coming school year!

What a wonderful welcome back to Magnificat this past school year. Getting to know our students,
faculty, staff, alumnae, parents and friends has been a joy and a blessing. Our community remains
deeply connected through our beautiful Mission and purpose, and I look forward to this upcoming year
with great anticipation.
In meeting with many alumnae and friends of Magnificat from all over the country, I remain heartened by
their memories of Magnificat past and their hopes for Magnificat’s future. Magnificat has made such a
difference in the professional and personal lives of women from every generation. Magnificat women are
confident, compassionate and courageous, empowered to lead and serve their families, friends and
communities. What an incredible blessing to our world!

MAGNIFICAT 1955 FOUNDERS SOCIETY
In 1955, three Sisters of the Humility of Mary opened Magnificat High School to 63 students in a small, vacated schoolhouse. Inspired by faith and their life-changing
mission to learn, lead and serve in the spirit of Mary, these innovative Sisters established what is now a tradition of excellence in Catholic education and the largest
all-girl Catholic high school in Ohio. Magnificat honors and gratefully acknowledges the members of the 1955 Founders Society whose faithful support has reached
giving milestones in their commitment to Magnificat High School.

The Hebing-Reidy-Norton Family
As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Magnificat, we also honor the many community members who
have been here since the beginning. One of those heritage families, the Hebing-Reidy-Norton Family,
continues to honor and grow the tradition of a Magnificat education today with triplet granddaughters in
the Class of 2018. Read on to find out how the tale of three sisters has since become the story of three
more sisters, and now three current students.

A TALE OF THREE SISTERS…
AND THREE MORE SISTERS…
Katherine “Katie” Hebing Reidy ’59 has the distinction of being a
member of Magnificat’s first graduating class. And although she didn’t
start her high school career at Magnificat—moving to Rocky River
halfway through her sophomore year—she was quickly made to feel
at home.
Fast-forward a quarter century, and Katie Reidy had the first of her
own three close-knit daughters, Jennifer Reidy ’85. Debbie Reidy
Norton ’86 followed, and finally Kristine Reidy ’99. Jennifer is Co-Chief
of the Division of Palliative Care at UMass Memorial Medical Center in
Boston, a job she attributes to her Genesis experience in caring for
others in Appalachia, Debbie is a current Magnificat parent with triplet
daughters (more on that in a minute), and Kristine serves as Senior
Director of Price Waterhouse Cooper’s Detroit office.
“I was a shy, nervous girl who didn’t talk a lot. My natural inclination
was to be quiet, watch and learn. (Classmate) Betty Petrie kind of
adopted me. She shepherded me around,” says Katie. “I felt
comfortable, liked the Sisters and teachers, and felt accepted by my
classmates, even though I was a newbie. These were teenage girls
we’re talking about, after all,” she laughs.
The oldest of three girls, Katie’s positive experience did not go
unnoticed. Her younger sisters, Pauline Hebing Alma ’60 and
Theodora “Teddi” Hebing ’67 followed suit, also graduating from
Magnificat. The three, who gather often for family get-togethers and
monthly lunches, often find themselves talking about their Magnificat
memories, each other’s graduations and more.

AND THEN TRIPLETS!
The power of three continued as Katie’s middle daughter, Debbie, had
three daughters of her own, triplets, Anna, Sydney and Taylor—all
members of the Class of 2018.
“The triplets always knew they were going to go to Magnificat. And
they’re loving it, working hard and trying their darndest to succeed in
their classes. I pick them up from school periodically, and I love
listening to how their days went. I tear up just sitting there watching

the students coming out, waiting for the girls,” says Katie. “They
have made a lot of friends and have expanded their scope of
friendships beyond their grade school. They’re glad of their choice of
attending Magnificat.”
AND NOW…
Today, Katie has remained committed to Magnificat, financially and
socially. She has attended soccer games, events in the beautiful
Magnificat Center for the Performing Arts and Class of 1959
get-togethers.

We thought it would be fun to compare notes with a 1959 alumna and a 2016 recent graduate to find out
what has changed or stayed the same in Magnificat’s 60 years of existence. For this “Then and Now”
assignment, we enlisted the help of Noreen Scott Thornton ’59 and her granddaughter Lizzie Thornton ’16.
The co-curriculars and lunch offerings may have changed, but the strong faith, academic and community

HOW DID YOUR FAITH DEEPEN WHILE AT
MAGNIFICAT:
Noreen: I was active in my parish at OLA,
and I appreciated the tradition of the H.M.’s.
Lizzie: As a tutor at Mount Carmel, I had a
student who had just lost her father and she
was struggling. Her situation helped me think
about how different our experiences were
even though we both went to Catholic grade
schools. Working with her made me aware of
the stuff going on in other peoples’ lives.
WHAT WILL YOU REMEMBER MOST
ABOUT YOUR FOUR YEARS:
Noreen: I still meet my classmates for dinner
once a month at Hooley House in Westlake.
We’ve been doing this dinner thing for maybe
15 years. We compare notes about our
children and grandchildren.
Lizzie: My friends. I didn’t have super close
friends until my Junior year after Kairos. They
are my best friends. There are six of us.
2015-2016
MAGNIFICAT MOMENT:
Noreen: Graduation and our Chant during
Senior year after Night-in-Blue was over.
Lizzie: I have two; when I won my Business
Club award with the Veale Foundation for my
business, Frosting on the Cake, and getting a
4 on my AP History test.
CAREER GOALS:
Noreen: I went to Cleveland State University
to study social studies/history. I wanted to go
to law school, but became a mom.
Lizzie: I’m going to Loyola Chicago to study
Marketing and Entrepreneurship.
