GOOD SHEPHERD SUMMER CAMP CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Camps are open to Incoming 1st-8th graders Recycled Art with Mrs. Junker and Ms. Jenna Spend the week with Mrs. Junker and Ms. Jenna creating art from trash and found objects! We have new projects from years past! Look forward to Tin Can Lanterns, Scrabble Tile Art, Succulent Arrangements, Tie Dye, Treasure Box Art and more! If you enjoy art, creating functional projects, and thinking outside the box then this is the class for you! The class is open to twenty incoming K-8 participants, so sign up quickly! Girls Lacrosse with Mrs. Junker Girls entering K-8 are welcome to join Mrs. Junker and play girls Lacrosse! Girls will learn skills through drills and fun games as well as have a scrimmage every day. Girls lacrosse is offered as an after school sport for students in 3rd-8th grade from late October-December. This will be an awesome class for girls who are interested in playing next school year or are looking to improve skills for the next season. Lacrosse stick and protective eyewear will be provided. Participants are to have their own mouth guards; these aren’t provided. Cooking/Baking with Ms. Jenna In this camp, students will be introduced to many different cooking and baking techniques. We will have fun exploring new ways to create healthful meals as well as fun treats! Your child will also be educated on proper nutrition and eating, to help young bodies and brains grow strong! Over this week-long camp, students will learn how to follow recipes, measure ingredients, and properly use kitchen tools. Your child will learn some valuable life skills while having fun! Reading, Writing and Math Workshops with Ms. Jenna (K-2) This camp will be geared towards students entering 1st and 2nd grades. This will be a great way to ensure that your student is practicing their reading, writing, and math skills over summer break. We will practice reading comprehension and fluency, writing informational, opinion, and narrative pieces, and basic math skills. Keeping in mind that it is summer time, we will have lots of fun as we stay sharp on these important educational topics! Sports & Fitness with Ms. Jenna This camp will be jam-packed with games, sports, obstacle courses, and all sorts of fitness fun. These elements are combined to keep children engaged and entertained, while teaching them proper movement technique and creating a broad athletic foundation. Activities each day will include a thorough warm up, various technique building drills, fun games, and all different sports! Your child will come home happy, tired, and ready for more the next day! It is imperative to pair fitness and fun, to create a lifelong love of health and fitness for our children. Acrylic Painting with Ms. Vanda (2nd-8th) This a basic course designed for beginners or intermediate students. Simple shapes and compositions are taught and practiced. 6/19- Ocean Scene 6/20- Starfish and other Sea Life 6/21- Night Scene 1 6/22- Night Scene 2 6/23- Fine tuning previous works from earlier in the week Drawing and Painting with Ms. Vanda (2nd-8th) This drawing and painting class will build both fine motor skills and confidence for students. Students will also be taught how using correct tools increases the likelihood of creating successful project details. This is a fun class designed to uplift the student. 6/19- Drawing the ocean in graphite reverse 6/20- Drawing trees in a landscape 6/21- Drawing a Dog or Cat 6/22- Drawing a Horse 6/23- Fine tuning previous works from earlier in the week Craft Camp, Manga, Comic and Folk Art with Ms. Vanda This camp will teach many processes for creating art. 6/26- Basic Manga Heads / Corn Husk Dolls 6/27- Creating a Paper Dragon 6/28- Drawing a simple comic scene 6/20- Painting a Colorful Dragonfly scene with glitter 6/30- Charcoal Redwood Tree (Clay time or mosaic time for those students who need a break) Painting with Ms. Vanda (2nd-8th) This drawing and painting class will build both fine motor skills and confidence for students. This is a fun class designed to uplift the student. 7/3- Painting a Boat 7/5- Painting a Dragon 7/6- Painting an Illuminated Capital Letter(Your Child’s Initial), (Big story book letter with gold) 7/7- Fine tuning previous works from earlier in the week. Cooking with Little or No Heat with Ms. Vanda This camp will familiarize students with way of preparing food without using heat. Each item on the preparation menu uses healthful nourishing ingredients. Food safety and hand washing techniques will also be taught. 7/3- Tiramisu 7/5- No bake chocolate oatmeal cookies /frozen banana pops 7/6- Mango Sticky Rice 7/7- Cheesecake All students will have samples to take home Nature and Science with Mr. Todd (2nd-8th Grade) Hang with Mr. Todd and learn all about our natural world. We will get back to our roots as we explore different ecosystems and the importance of our role in preserving our environment! Team Games with Mr. Todd (1st-8th Grade) Enjoy a class filled with fun games and sports with Mr. Todd! Fun games include Dodgeball, Capture the Flag, Kickball, and more. For sports we will play Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, and Volleyball. Get ready to have fun in the sun!! Open to K-8 and no limit to number of participants. Ultimate Frisbee with Mr. Todd (3rd-8th Grade) Summer isn't summer without tossing some disc! Join Mr. Todd in his summer camp tradition of playing Ultimate Frisbee in the sunshine. The group will focus on improving fundamentals and studying "the spirit of the game" as they play multiple variations of Ultimate Frisbee throughout the week! Guitar with Mr. Todd (3rd-8th Grade) Rock out with Mr. Todd as we focus on improving our guitar skills. Never played before? Great! Mr. Todd will show you the basics and offer multiple learning styles to get you playing your favorite tunes by the end of the week! Already jamming? Awesome! You will be able to expand your knowledge of the instrument and perfect advanced techniques! *SPACE IS LIMITED* *Bring your own guitar!* Yoga and Mindfulness with Mr. Todd (2nd-8th Grade) Join Mr. Todd and others as we explore the art of Yoga and the relationship between our minds and bodies. Each day we will advance our practice and develop understanding of how to bring Yoga into our lives off the mat. Wilderness Survival with Mr. Todd (4th-8th Grade) Prepare yourself for any situation in the wilderness with Wilderness Survival with Mr. Todd. Adapted from the Boy Scouts of America, you will learn how to effectively build a shelter, perform search and rescue using proper wilderness first aid and many more skills for future outdoor adventures! Scientific Tools and Discoveries with Mrs. Gonzalez Students will learn how to properly use scientific tools with precision in Mrs. Gonzalez's science camp this summer. Learning how to use Graduated Cylinders and Triple Beam Balances to measure has never been so much fun. Students will conduct several labs and learn how to properly use a microscope. Come and explore! STEM with Mrs. Gonzalez Come and build with Mrs. G! STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Students will be given challenges and they will have to problem solve and work together to complete the task. STEM is a great way for students to think outside the book and apply concepts they have learned in class. Volleyball with Mrs. Gonzalez Bump, Set, Spike! Playing volleyball is a quick, fun game that many children love participating in. We will be working on the basic of the game; passing, serving, setting and keeping a rally going. This volleyball camp invites both girls and boys who are in 4th grade and up. The more the merrier, let's play! STEM Fundamentals using LEGO® Materials Power on your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply realworld concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as Snowmobiles, Towers, Catapults, and Battletracks! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. An experienced instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level. There is no prerequisite for this course. Minecraft Master Engineering using LEGO® Materials Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO® parts! Build a motorized walking Creeper, a terrifying Ghast, and a motorized Minecart! This project-based camp, designed by Play-Well instructors, combines the basic format of our core engineering-themed programs based on the world of Minecraft. Students will explore real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture while building their favorite Minecraft objects. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or the LEGO® building system.
