I hope that those of you who joined us, enjoyed the visit from Thomas Maltman,
the author of Little Wolves. It was nice to see people speaking one-on-one with
the All Iowa Reads author. I hope to be able to bring you more talented writers
in this type of format in the future.

We have a VERY exciting summer reading program planned, with lots of fun and
prizes. We look forward to seeing your children and grandchildren in the library
during the summer. Reading through the summer is the best way for kids to
stay at grade level (or better!) in Language Arts. We will also have an
interesting selection of movies for our free Movie Monday celebrations all
summer. Be on the lookout for more information about selections, dates and
times.
On Display at Maquoketa Public
Library
Are you a math or science buff? If so, take
the time to see the display of tools that
mathematicians and scientists used in the
past. Dan Davidson put together this
display from his personal collection.
Inside the case you will see a variety of
math and science items from the Abacus,
Geometric and Military Compasses to
slide rules and concluding with the first
scientific calculators that made their
debut in the 1970s.
This display will amaze you. It is located
on the main floor of the library. Come
and see for yourself!
If you have a Toddler, please join
us every Wednesday at 10 am we
will be using the Very Ready
Reading Program to promote early
literacy. We hope you will take the
songs and stories to use at home.

SPRING 2016
We will be having Story Time for all two-year-olds each Wednesday at 10:00 am in the children’s room, so
please feel free to join in with the group if you come when we are doing a session. We will be using “The Very
Ready Reading Program”, so stop by and join us for early literacy tips, great books and an easy craft project.
Our winner for the Bookmark Contest for National Library Week last month was Asaiah Yoder. He won a
$25.00 gift card to the Voy Theatres to use to see a movie and purchase concessions. His colorful dinosaur
bookmark will be available this summer with a listing of our children’s movies for each Monday on the back.
Some current bestselling books we have added to the children’s collection are: It’s Time to Sleep, My Love by
Nancy Tillman, What Does a Fox Say? by Sven Nyhus, Unspoken: A Story from the Underground Railroad by
Henry Cole, and Bob is a Unicorn by Michelle Nelson-Schmidt. Look for the Bob stuffed animal that allows
the elephant to pretend to become a unicorn.
