10 Tips When Booking Speakers or Entertainers
1. Make sure that you understand the goal or objective of your event.
2. Before you contact an agency to work with, be sure you have permission and are part of the
final decision-making process.
3. Have an approximate budget to work with so you are better able to narrow your choices.
4. Determine the demographics of your event audiences to help pick the right talent.
5. You should try to book at least a couple of months in advance to avoid disappointment.
6. Is there a theme for your event? This can help with choosing the talent.
7. Make sure to watch the demo video to ensure that the speaker or entertainer is
professional and does well on stage and the video is not highly edited, as that can hide bad
performers.
8. Ask for extras as part of the talent’s fee, including a meet and greet, books included for
speakers, and more. This is not always possible with all talent, but it never hurts to ask.
9. Be sure to put any requirements that you have in the contract, such as no blue material and
more. Do not assume that just because you mentioned it, the talent will remember your
request.
10. Promote the entertainer or speaker at your event to build excitement and anticipation, or
use the talent as a surprise and announce it just before the event takes place.
