Scottish Charity No. SC005277 Glasgow Women’s Aid Training Glasgow Women’s Aid has been supporting women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse for over 30 years. As an organisation we provide information, support and refuge accommo dation. During this time our service development has been influenced by the knowledge and experience that we have gained in those years. This direct experience means that we are in a unique position to raise awareness around domestic abuse and to provide relevant support and information. It is estimated that domestic abuse affects between 1:3 and 1:5 women at some point in their lives. So there is no doubt that it affects everyone in some way, either directly or indirectly. Our Training Worker, Susan Jack, has been in post for 8 years. Her background is in health and education. She has developed and presented bespoke training to workers from statutory organisations in health, social work, and education, to police officers, students from all learning backgrounds and voluntary organisations. Questions to ask Do you or your staff, workers or volunteers meet with women and/or children who are or have experienced domestic abuse? Would you feel more confident dealing with those who have experienced domestic abuse if you had received awareness training on the subject? Do you deal with the general public, delivering services or advice and information? Could your organisation offer more effective services to the public if they had received training on domestic abuse? Does your course cover family dynamics, Human Rights, relationships, women, children and young people, the legal system. If so domestic abuse awareness, analysis and information is essential.
