SCOUTING THE LOBOS: UNM began the season by hosting the Lobo Invitational
where it lost to two top-25 teams, including the No. 1 team in the country Florida
State. The Lobos met the defending national champions on Friday, falling 3-1. UNM
then met No. 15 Texas Tech on Sunday, where an early Red Raider goal held until the
final whistle as the Lobos lost 0-1. Head coach Heather Dyche returns to her native
Albuquerque for her first season at the helm of the program. She played her collegiate
ball at Florida State. UNM has an experienced squad which returns 10 of 11 starters
from a team that went 10-6-2 in 2014 and finished third in the Mountain West with a
7-2-2 conference record. Senior Claire Lynch led the team last season with four goals
and has the only goal for the Lobos this season.

ABOUT THE AGGIES: NM State began the season by falling to Eastern Washington at home
1-2 in double overtime. The Aggies fell behind 1-0 after one half but quickly tied the match at 1-1
after an early second-half goal by Aileen Galicia. The match remained tied through regulation
time and a first overtime. The Eagles stole a victory after a goal in second overtime with under
three minutes left to play.
ON THE HORIZON: The Aggies will hit the road for the first time this season as they play two
away matches this weekend. NM State first travels to Moscow, Idaho to face Idaho on Friday, Aug.

THE RECENT PAST: NM State kicked off the season with a 1-2 double overtime loss at home
to Eastern Washington. The Aggies trailed 1-0 at the half, but a goal by freshman Aileen Galicia
in the 53rd minute knotted the match at one. Fellow freshman Sabrina Ruiz was awarded an assist
after her shot was deflected by the Eagle goalkeeper and on to Galicia’s foot. The match would
remain tied into the second overtime until Eastern Washington stole a win with under three minutes remaining after NM State could not clear a free kick from just outside of the box.
YOUNG GUNS: The Aggies head into the 2015 season with a young squad that includes 17
freshmen on the 27-player roster. NM State has a total of 21 underclassmen and only two seniors
on a team that lost the program’s top-two all-time leading scorers in Jennae Cambra and Layla
Todd, both of whom graduated in 2014.
‘O FAIR NEW MEXICO’: 17 is not only the number of freshmen on the NM State roster but
also the number of players that hail from the Land of Enchantment. Albuquerque is well represented as a total of 13 Aggies are from the Duke City. The roster also includes a player from Farmington, Santa Teresa and freshman Rian Nials and sophomore Micaela Milavec, both of whom are
homegrown products from Las Cruces. NM State also carries two players from neighboring El
Paso, Texas.
NATIONAL CHAMPION RIENKS: NM State sophomore defender Alexis Rienks was part of
the Nebraska Gretna Prima Green under-19 club team that brought home a national championship at the 2015 United States Youth Soccer National Championships in Tulsa, Okla., this summer.
Rienks, from Lincoln, Neb., and Gretna Prima Green first had to win the Nebraska state tournament before winning the regionals to advance to nationals. It was the first-ever national soccer
club title for the state of Nebraska in any age group.
PRESEASON HONORS: Aggie Holly Abdelkader was honored on the Preseason All-WAC
team. The NM State sophomore midfielder from Alta Loma, Calif., played in all 22 matches last
season as a freshman, starting in 12 of those matches. She finished with two goals and two assists
for a total of six points, tied for fourth best on the team.
The Aggies were picked to finish in a tie for sixth place in the WAC with Texas-Rio Grande Valley in the preseason coaches’ poll. Back-to-back conference champion Seattle U was once again
picked to win the WAC.
2014 RECAP: Last season NM State finished 5-17 overall and in a tie for fifth place in the WAC
with a 3-7 conference record during head coach Freddy Delgado’s first season at the helm of the
program. The Aggies advanced to the WAC Tournament for the third time in program history
and for the first time in three years. They received the No. 5 seed and quickly proceeded to upset
No. 4 Bakersfield, 3-0, in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion and No. 1 seed
Seattle U.
PROGRAM HISTORY: 2015 is the program’s seventh year of existence as the university first
played women’s soccer in 2009. With the season-opening loss to Eastern Washington, NM State
now has an all-time overall record of 38-70-12 and a WAC record of 12-35-6.

FREDDY DELGADO
Head Coach
2nd Season
Record at NM State: 5-18-0 (.217)
WAC Record: 3-7-0 (.300)
Career HC Record: 38-82-4 (.307)
Alma Mater: Regis (Colo.), 1997
Head coach Freddy Delgado begins his second season at the helm of the New Mexico State women’s soccer program. He led the Aggies to a 5-170 record in 2014 during his first year as head coach at NM State. 2014 was Delgado’s sixth season as a Division I head coach and 18th year overall
coaching collegiate athletes.
Three of the wins last season came during Western Athletic Conference play as the Aggies finished 3-6-0 in conference play and advanced to the WAC
Tournament for only the third time in the program’s six seasons.
Delgado led fifth-seeded NM State to an upset 3-0 win over fourth-seeded Bakersfield in the first round of the conference tournament before losing to
eventual WAC champion Seattle U. It was the first win in the WAC Tournament for the Aggies since 2011.
During the 2014 campaign, Delgado coached seniors Jennae Cambra and Layla Todd to second team All-WAC status. Cambra and Todd finished
their careers 1-2 on the NM State women’s soccer all-time goal scoring list. Cambra would also break the single-season scoring record after finishing
2014 with 14 goals.
Delgado was named the third head coach in NM State women’s soccer program history in January 2014. He was the interim head coach since
mid-November of 2013 after the resignation of Blair Quinn. He first came to Las Cruces after joining the New Mexico State soccer staff as an assistant
coach in March 2013.
Before NM State, Delgado spent the 2008-12 seasons as the head coach at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He helped the Trojans to two Sun Belt Conference Tournament appearances in
his tenure.
Delgado spent five seasons transforming the UALR program into a contender in the Sun Belt
Conference. In addition to two conference tournament showings, Delgado led UALR to academic
success as well. The NSCAA recognized the Trojans for their team GPA of 3.0 or above for five
academic years under Delgado.
As a head coach at UALR, Delgado posted a 33-64-4 overall record and a 15-36-3 conference
record. He was named UALR head women’s soccer coach, April 15, 2008, after seven seasons as an
assistant coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
