Cumnock has been a market town for centuries. The Mercat Cross dates
back to 1703 and much of the town centre’s historic architecture echoes
our Victorian past. The last century saw the arrival of the Glaisnock
Shopping Centre which today is making way for a brand new retail
development fit for the twenty-first century.

Already smart new shops have opened on Townhead Street, providing
new premises and a bright new outlook for retailers which have served
Cumnock for decades. Here, and throughout the key shopping areas
of The Square, Glaisnock Street and Ayr Road, you’ll find all sorts of
shops and services, the vast majority of which are independent
businesses owned by local people. It’s this, and the genuine
commitment to offering not just great service but excellent choice and

East Ayrshire’s second largest town, Cumnock
lies at the junction of the A70 from Ayr (16m)
and the A76 from Kilmarnock (17m), with
regular bus services from both. You can also
catch a train to nearby Auchlinleck, a ten
minute bus ride to Cumnock.

Besides an abundance of friendly local shops, a
wide choice of places to eat and drink, and an
array of professional services, there’s lots more
to see, do and enjoy whilst in Cumnock.
From historic monuments to a vibrant local sports scene, there’s plenty
to discover in Cumnock. Check out The Baird gallery and museum,
home to fascinating artefacts and host to diverse exhibitions. Spectate
at one of the many fiercely fought junior football or rugby matches, or
take a dip at Visions Leisure Centre. Explore the towns parks and
walkways, or check out Cumnock’s important role in the life of political
pioneer Keir Hardie.
And don’t miss the many festivals and events in and around Cumnock
including the Cumnock Tryst, Boswell Book Festival and Cumnock
Highland Games as well as the town’s Christmas programme.
There’s also plenty to explore a little further out of town such as
Dumfries House, Boswell Coach House, Catrine House, Blackstone
Clydesdales and New Cumnock’s open air swimming pool.
