Celebrating 35 Years
Since 1978, Surf or Sound Realty has had the privilege of offering the finest vacation homes to
Hatteras Island guests, welcoming tens of thousands of vacationers to our homes each year. We
currently represent 420 of Hatteras Island’s premier homes, from single family beach cottages
along the Pamlico Sound to large oceanfront estates overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. One of the
biggest changes we’ve seen in the past 35 years is the way we utilize modern technology to
communicate our homes to the world in contrast to the paper and pen of days gone by. Last
year we introduced our custom mobile app allowing our guests to retrieve information specific
to their rental home and vacation needs right at their fingertips. This year we will launch our
new feature-laden website expected to be an industry leader. One thing that has not changed is
the beauty of Hatteras Island found outside our window. Of course, we love our jobs!

“mom and pop” businesses scattered along NC Highway 12, you will feel a sense of peace as
your worries fly out the window cruising down a portion of the Outer Banks National Scenic

Must Visit:
 Cape Hatteras Lighthouse: In 1999, at the ripe old age of 129, America’s 248 stair
lighthouse was moved to its current location due to the encroaching Atlantic Ocean.
 Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum: Housing artifacts from one of the highest densities
of shipwrecks in the world including the U.S.S. Monitor, this collection holds dear some
of America’s maritime history.
 Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station: The first operational lifesaving station in North
Carolina is the scene of the most highly-awarded maritime rescue in American history
and still performs full beach apparatus drill demonstrations in season.

Hatteras Storytelling Festival - May
A 3-day festival in the quaint village of Hatteras, presented by Our State magazine featuring
America’s most celebrated storytellers along with music, local storytellers , local east and much
more.
Triple-S Invitational Kiteboarding Competition - June
This annual event attracts professional kiteboarders to compete at one of the top 3 kiteboarding
destinations in the world, Hatteras Island. This is an opportunity to meet the pros and learn
more about the sport.
American Heroes Day - August
Spend the day at Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station watching the United States Coast Guard,
Honor Guard and Color Guard perform popular lifesaving demonstrations including a Coast
Guard search and rescue and beach apparatus drill, also known as the Breeches Buoy
Reenactment.
