JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Finance provides the leadership and management necessary to ensure that the
organization has the appropriate financial and physical infrastructure in place to support the
strategic vision and mission of the organization. The Director is responsible for overseeing the
management and operation of EngenderHealth’s global finance, accounting, facilities and office services
functions in a flexible, team-based organizational environment. Particular emphasis will be placed on
maintaining financial and administrative management practices and systems that are compliant with US
and local laws as well as donor requirements but are also conducive to effective implementation of all
country and global programs and projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting & Reporting
 Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP
standards and regulatory requirements.
 Maintain internal controls and safeguards and ensure maintenance of fiscal policies and procedures.
 Comply with the financial reporting requirements of various funding sources to ensure that all
obligations are met.
 Supervise the preparation of required filings to the government, including annual tax returns, state
registrations, Private Voluntary Organization (“PVO”) registration, Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate
Agreement (“NICRA”) submissions, Dunn & Bradstreet registration, etc.
 Supervise the financial management of all programs and projects, including oversight and support for
program budgeting and budget development, financial reporting, pipeline analysis and review.


Treasury
 Oversee cash flow planning, ensure availability of funds and cash management.
Budgeting & Analysis






Ensure that full account analyses are completed for all accounts on a routine basis.
Supervise the timely production of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and the
preparation and analysis of Board reports and internal budget variance reports.
Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and financial analyses to provide insight into
the organization’s operations and plans.
Ensure the timely completion of the annual budgeting and mid-year reforecast process.
Ensure the consistent analysis of financial data, keep senior leadership apprised of potential changes in
the organization’s financial status.
Collaborate with Program staff to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish
finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
Audit & Governance
 Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and international state and federal law regarding
nonprofit operations to ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
 Prepare the management response and corrective action plan for any management letter findings
resulting from the annual audit.
 Establish and supervise the team that responds to the annual independent financial audit.
 Supervise all external audit activity and proper filing of tax returns in all applicable countries. Manage
external audits for field offices as well as the coordination of management responses to internal and
external audit findings in field office audits.
 Work with country offices on implementing corrective action plans related to internal audit findings.
Staff Management
 Demonstrated interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity
 Manage, motivate and mentor a high performing team. Leverage the strengths of the current team
members, develop and train them to reach optimal individual and organizational performance goals.
 Oversee a process of cross-training between team members to enhance individual skills sets and to
strengthen the overall operations.
 Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the
organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:


Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting or equivalent; CPA or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of ten years’ experience in the non-profit or public sectors, including fund accounting, fiscal
audits of program activities and reporting to government agencies; USAID reporting a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:






An experienced manager, capable of rapidly assessing the daily needs of managing a large finance
staff and ensuring that they receive the guidance to complete their work in a timely manner.
Experience of Financial Systems implementation preferred.
Proficiency in the use of accounting software programs such as QuickBooks and SAGE X3.
Proficiency in creating and using spreadsheets, general ledger accounting packages, database and word
processing software.
Ability to work well under pressure, show attention to detail, prioritizes activities and meets deadlines.
In-depth experience in the financial management of field office operations, especially in the countries
we operate.
The ability to work collaboratively and participate as a member of a diverse team.
