for students in grades 6-12
ummer Music at Stanislaus is
located on the beautiful
campus of California State
University, Stanislaus. This
picturesque location, noted for its scenic
lakes and waterfalls is the perfect location in
which to make music, build friendships and
have fun! Campers from all sessions will
complete their week-long experience with
performances by the band, orchestra, choir
(senior session only), and piano ensembles
in the stunning Snider Recital Hall. Other
concerts include the Honors Chamber Camp
recital, faculty recital, and Friday afternoon
chamber music recital.

Campers are housed on campus in airconditioned rooms in the University’s housing
complex under the supervision of camp staff.
Recreation includes swimming, stafforganized recreational games, game room
with pool table, and a trip to “Funworks”
arcade and amusement park in Modesto.
Friday nights feature a special BBQ and ice
cream social.

Stanislaus Camp participants on our official Website and in promotional
material. Visual and audio images are any type of recording, including
photographs, digital images, drawings, renderings, voices, sounds, video
recordings, audio clips and accompanying written descriptions. CSU
Stanislaus will not materially alter the original images. The signor agrees
that CSU Stanislaus owns the images and all rights related to them. The
images may be used in any manner or media without signor being notified,
such as University-sponsored Web sites, publications, promotions,

CHAMBER MUSIC CAMP
(grades 9-12) June 15-25, 2011
Chamber Music Camp is an
intense program for the finest
young musicians in California.

be highlighted in a chamber music concert on June 20.
The remainder of camp will consist of continued participation with their chamber groups and with the Senior Camp
band, orchestra or choir.
FULL SCHOLARSHIP
Audition requirements:
A $25 non-refundable processing fee is required with
your application and recording. (If you are not accepted
for Chamber Camp and would like to attend Senior
Camp, the $25 will be applied toward tuition.) Audition
tapes must be postmarked by April 2. Students will be
notified by May 7.All CDs/tapes should include two
pieces in contrasting styles (an etude can substitute for
one of the pieces).

one minor (melodic).
Singers:
a chromatic scale demonstrating your
range.
Pianists: Piano students are selected by participating in
the Sylvia Ghiglieri Piano Competition (to be held on
April 16, 2011 at CSU Stanislaus – contact the Music Dept.
www.csustan.edu/Music. The top two winners will be
offered scholarships to the Chamber Camp. Audition
tapes will be considered if the winners of the
competition are not able to come to camp (see
requirements above).
JUNIOR CAMP (grades 6-8) June 12-18, 2011
Junior Camp is open to all band, orchestra, and piano
students (pianists: please see information below), who have
completed grades six through eight in the spring of 2011.
Students will participate in concert band or orchestra as
major performing ensembles. In addition, campers will have
daily sectional rehearsals, elective classes (conducting, music
history, music theory, beginning piano, vocal techniques,
composition, and jazz ensemble), and the opportunity to
participate in chamber ensembles. Private lessons from
faculty may also be available for an additional fee.
SENIOR CAMP
(grades 9-12)
June 19-25, 2011
Senior Camp is open to all
band, orchestra, choral, and
piano students (pianists:
please see information below),
who have completed grades
nine through twelve in the
spring of 2011. In addition to
concert band, orchestra, and
choir as major performing
ensembles, students will have the opportunity to perform
in chamber ensembles and may take a variety of elective
classes including conducting, music history, music theory,
beginning piano, vocal techniques, composition, jazz
ensemble and improvisation. Private lessons from faculty
may also be available for an additional fee. An audition tape
is required for all graduating eighth grade instrumentalists
wishing to enroll in Senior Session. The tape should consist
of a two-octave scale and a solo that demonstrates technical
and musical ability.
Pianists will receive a daily individual lesson in a master
class format, classes in piano literature, keyboard harmony
and technique, and piano ensemble. In addition, students
will have elective classes from which to choose (see
descriptions under Junior or Senior camp headings). Piano
Camp will culminate with a concluding performance
celebrating each student’s accomplishments. For more

New this year to the vocal program will
be a musical theatre section as part of the choir
program. All enrolled choir students will have
the opportunity to learn major chorus and
ensemble pieces from popular Broadway shows.
Lessons will include stage movement and
choreography, acting, character analysis, and
Musical Theatre appreciation.
Composers CAMP
(grades 9-12) June 19-25, 2011
FEES
The Composers Program will be offered to high
school students who wish to develop their
compositional skills. Composers will receive multiple
lessons in a master class format with Dr. Brett
Abigaña, an internationally known composer and
Composition Program director. In addition, students
will participate in classes in counterpoint, harmony,
contemporary theory, the business side of
composition, and conducting. Students will also have
elective classes from which to choose (see
descriptions under Senior camp headings).
Throughout the composition program, there will be
ample opportunity for readings and performances of
the students’ works by their peers and faculty/staff.
