They continued to trail behind
the Indians until the 4th quarter
when things really began to
heat up and the Indians finally
realized they were in trouble.
The Morning Star fans stayed
behind their team as they witnessed Morning Star points
slowly began to narrow the gap.
As the score became even and
the playing intensified by the
Star‟s team work, Star fans
were brought to their feet and
their support was deafening. By
the fourth quarter, and with the
Indians running out of steam as
well as stamina, with a few
seconds left, Morning Star Tevin Bighead sunk the last basket bringing the entire crowd of
Star fans to their feet for the
final time. With the ball in
their court, the Indians were
unable to complete a 3-point
attempt from the field as the
ball missed the basket. The
buzzer sounded making the
Morning Stars the District 3B
Champions. “It was an awesome game!” exclaimed Morning Star fan Tom MexicanCheyenne. The sentiment was
felt as well by Aundre Bell who
stated, “It was an awesome
comeback!” After the awards
ceremony, jubilation continued
as the crowd went to the floor
congratulating the players. A
huge victory parade with three
fire engines, buses and many
cars snaked throughout the
village of Lame Deer with
honking horns. Porch lights
flicked all over town as the
champions led the way in the
charter bus. The parade made
it‟s way back to the Veteran‟s
Park where a victory „49 was
held. There was also a bon fire
and gathering at the tribal headquarters parking lot in the
team‟s honor.

began on February 24
during an assembly. The
Morning Stars were honored at this time. The
assembly was a fun time
gathering to help send off
the team to the Divisional Tournament in Belgrade. Coach
Lonnie and Lady Star Alyssa Demontiney won the peanut
butter and milk contest. Alyssa fed him from behind like a
pro, even scraped up the crumbs and dumped them into his
mouth. With his eyes closed they took first place and also
won a bag and a t-shirt. Coming in a close second
was Teton Magpie fed by Lady Star Bailey Limpy.
These guys all looked like T-Rexes with short arms.
Coach Lonnie Littlebird was fed from
behind by Lady Star Alyssa Demontiney.
They took first place to win a bag and a
Lady Stars t-shirt.
Even though the Stars lost out at the Divisional
Tournament at Belgrade, they made history in Colstrip. Coming from behind with 3 wins and 15 losses
during the season, they beat three teams to become
District champs. Good luck next year to the returnWith very short arms, it was difficult to make a

Sometimes, things just seem to fall apart
when you least expect them to
sometimes, you want to pack up and leave behind
all of them and all their smiles
I don’t know what to think anymore
maybe things will get better
maybe things will look brighter
maybe, maybe, maybe
sometimes, people surprise you
and people surprise me
well, I guess that’s the price we pay
for wanting so badly
I don’t know what to think anymore
maybe things will get better
maybe things will look brighter
Maybe...maybe...maybe
sometimes, sometimes, sometimes

There Is Hope
In my eyes, teen violence has gotten way out
of control. To me, is doesn‟t seem like a lot of
people are noticing,. If not that, then they just
aren't trying to stop it or trying to help prevent it
in any way. It has gone way too far. I think
everyone needs to step in and help out, even if
it‟s just a little bit. Teen violence has affected
me my life majorly. Just seeing teen pull themselves down or get into trouble, I feel hurt myself. I have to sit here and watch my friends
make bad choices and do negative things. It
makes me think that there is no hope whatsoever. I, just like everyone else, need a reason to
keep my head up and keep going. We all need
some kind of hope. Something bigger and
higher to look up to. That could mean positive
peers or even parents. Someone to let us teens
know that people do care and that people are
trying to help out.
I feel that some major causes of teen violence
are drugs and alcohol. Teens get speeches daily
about how drugs and alcohol are so bad for you
and why they are bad for you. Just because
someone comes and tells you that doesn‟t mean
you always get it through your head. It doesn‟t
mean that you‟re going to listen to them or that
they are preventing you from it. Most of the
time, kids think that those people are just wasting their time. Drugs and alcohol aren‟t the only
cause though.. There is gang violence and
abuse. I did a lot of research on gangs before
and I found out that the number one reason why
kids join gangs is because they feel protected.
It‟s either from other people, or their own fami-
lies. They feel that if they are in a gang, that their
home boys got their back. Those are just some
causes of teen violence. Trust me, it doesn‟t stop
there.
Like I said before, it hurts me to see teens participating in violent activities and making bad
choices. It‟s especially bad when you live on a
reservation where it is all around you all the time.
I understand that it is hard for kids these days and
that sometimes you feel that you can never get
away from it, but I plan on helping. I hope to one
day become a huge help with getting rid of teen
violence, not just on my reservation but world
wide. I want to create an escape for them. Somewhere they can go to get away from it. Kind of
like a boys and girls club, but for teens and even
younger adults. The ones that aren‟t so grown up
yet, and still tend to drag themselves down by
making negative choices. I want to let them
young kids, teens even young adults know that
there is hope and that someone does care about
them. I feel that that‟s a major problem with kids
these days. So I want to speak out and let them
know that I care and that they are not alone.
Teens and violence is getting stronger. It‟s
getting worse everyday, but I know that there is a
way to stop it. I have faith that there is a way to
make kids believe there is a way out. Everyone
just needs to step in and help out a little bit. It‟s
their kids that could be in danger. It‟s their teens
that could be involved in dangerous activities. If
they really love their kids, they will go out of
their way to stop teen violence. There is hope and
until you find it, teen violence is always going to
be around.
