INTERNET USE and COMPUTER USAGE GUIDELINES, POLICY and AGREEMENT
Background
We pride ourselves at Tower Road Christian Academy on our commitment to providing the most current technologies and
information resources for our students. The internet is among those resources, providing access to information from
government agencies and other organizations, colleges and universities, news services, and consumer information services.
Students in grades 3 – 12 will be using computer-based Christian curriculum through Alpha Omega’s Ignitia online program.
Security
Tower Road Christian Academy students will be assigned a computer, or students may bring a personal computer from home,
on which to do their Ignitia computer-and-internet-based school work. TRCA teachers will also be selecting appropriate
electronic resources and guiding students toward course-appropriate materials to supplement Ignitia’s curriculum.
With access to computers and people all over the world comes the availability of material that may not be considered to be
of educational value in the context of a school setting. Also, in a constantly changing global network, it is impossible to
control all materials, and inappropriate materials may still be accessed.
With this in mind, an internet filtering system as well as monitoring software is in place. There is no expectation of privacy
when using a computer at Tower Road Christian Academy – including if a student is using a personal computer brought from
home.
Teachers will be responsible for supervising their students and orienting them regarding effective and appropriate use. All
computers – even personal computers brought from home – must remain in the classroom during school hours and may
not be used during breaks - including lunch breaks. In addition, all computers – including personal computers brought from
home, are only to be used for school work.
Fines and Discipline
If a student is in a file or a part of a program or is found to have accessed a website where he or she does not belong
(meaning it is not school work related), the administrator will assign one day of suspension.
If a student is using one of TRCA’s computers and gets into a file or a part of a program that results in a service call, and the
technician can directly affect the repair to the student's actions, the cost of the service call will be incurred by the student.
Any student who changes any default settings will be fined $10.00 for the first offense and receive a suspension for the
second. Any third and subsequent offense will result in further disciplinary action.
A student who downloads or engages in any online game will be fined $25.00 for the first offense and will receive a
suspension and be fined $25.00 for the second offense. Any third or subsequent offense will result in further disciplinary
action.
Any student who engages in theft of identity, which includes, but is not limited to, using others’ passwords, will be fined
$25.00 and be suspended for the first offense. The second offense will result in a $25.00 fine and a three-day suspension
from school. Any third or subsequent offenses will result in serious disciplinary action that could result in a school board
disciplinary action.
This Internet Use and Computer Usage Guidelines, Policy, and Agreement form must be signed by both the student and the
parent or guardian at the bottom of each page. In addition, on the Agreement part of this form (which begins on the
following page) each statement must be initialed by the student. This completed form must be on file before a student will
be issued a personal password in order to do school work or before a parent will be given access to the online parent portal.
If a student is assigned a computer to use for the school year, the student and parents will be financially responsible for any
damage done to the assigned computer.
