come as a nasty shock.
Police believe Aron
took Leiby home to his
Brooklyn attic and killed him in a panic after
thousands of people formed a Shomrin, or community patrol.
‘‘Inside (Aron’s) refrigerator was a cutting
board with three carving knives with blood on
them. Some of the remains were in the
freezer, and others in a
dumpster 2½ miles
away,’ police commissioner Ray Kelly said.
Leiby’s funeral was
held yesterday – Thursday evening New York

with Jewish custom that

Any candidate but Obama
WASHINGTON: For the
first time, a generic
Republican Party candidate is favoured by
a statistically significant margin over President Barack Obama, a
Gallup poll released yesterday reveals.
The poll shows 47 per
cent of voters would
choose the ‘‘Republican
Party’s candidate for
president’’, while 39 per

cent said they would
vote for Obama.
Gallup called the result the ‘‘first statistically significant’’ lead
for Republicans among
registered voters; last
month, the generic Republican was ahead of
the President 44 per cent
to 39 per cent, within the
poll’s margin of error.
Among independent
voters, the latest poll
showed 44 per cent supported the Republican
candidate while 34 per
cent went for Obama,
with one in five having
no opinion.
The poll surveyed 897
voters nationwide, and
had a margin of error of
four percentage points.
Gallup cautioned polling this far in advance
did not have much
predictive ability.
