Civil Defence
As many of you are aware there is no current Civil
Defence organisation in the Culverden area. To this
extent the Culverden Community Committee have invited
Allan Grigg who is the Civil Defence co ordinator for the
Hurunui District Council to attend their next meeting to be
held on Wednesday 4th April at the Council
Chambers - 7.30pm.
COMMUNITY LIBRARY NEWS The Amuri Community Library may have restricted access from Wednesday April 4th until further notice to allow EQC work to take place. Further updates will be published in The Peril next week. The Library will definitely be closed from 2.30pm on Thursday 5th April regardless of whether the work is going ahead or not. All interested members of the community are invited to
hear Allan speak and it is hoped that from this meeting we
can get a core group of people together who are willing to
begin the process of organising a Civil Defence group in
our area.

Amuri Lions Club
The Amuri Lions Club are holding their
combined 40th Anniversary and ChangeOver night towards the end of June this
year and are looking for a local
club/organisation that would like to
increase their own funds by catering for
this dinner.
We are expecting to have around 90
people at the dinner and would like to
serve a main and a pudding + tea/coffee
although a starter as well would be a
bonus.
We anticipate that we would be charging
around $35 a head though there is some
room for movement on this price.
If your club is interested in cooking this
dinner as a fund raiser please e-mail or
telephone the Amuri Lions Secretary –
Ross Dobby to discuss it further.

High Visibility vests for Amuri junior schools Amuri Rural women have been concerned about school bus safety for some years, we are currently waiting on legislation to come to pass ensuring all school buses have flashing signage which will come on when the bus slows or is stopped. Research has showed that vehicles significantly slow down when these lights are present. Rural Women NZ nationally are pushing this project. In the mean time it was suggested by Rotherham School children during a bus safety talk at their school, that we could improve the safety of children by having them wear high visibility vests when travelling to and from school. We are suggesting that they be worn by all junior children whether on the bus or walking, even just going to and from the car. We have been fundraising for some time for the bus project and have used some of this money along with donations from local businesses to purchase 200 vests for all junior schools in our club catchment area. We have given these to the schools to be loaned to the children during their junior years. We are hopeful that parents will come on board and ensure children wear the vests each day when leaving the house, we understand we are creating another job in an already busy day but hope everyone will consider it worthwhile. It will both raise driver awareness of children and make the children think more of the importance of road safety. When we visited the schools to present their vests, we found the older children were also interested in wearing them and have ordered more vests to arrive this month. Amuri Rural Women’s Dinner Group wish to thank the following for their generous donations for this project: Dwyer Lewis contracting Kevin & Alex Thompson George Popplewell Engineering M & J Schwass Beechbank Dairies Ltd Leo Dunne Ltd Waibury Farms Ltd
