Here is an outline of this half term’s work. We hope that
you will find opportunities at home to enhance and

LITERACY:

Literacy:
• Week 1: Word and sentence work.
• Weeks 2-5: Myths and legends (Year 5 & 6 – Fables,
myths and legends). Link to Ancient Greece.
• Weeks 6-8: Explanation texts (Year 5 & 6 Persuasion).
• Weeks 9-11: Play scripts (Year 6 ext: Biography).
• Weeks 12-13: Poetry
Numeracy:
• Weeks 1 & 2: Addition, subtraction and partitioning
Hundreds, Tens and Units.
• Weeks 3 – 5: Times tables, problem solving and shape.
• Weeks 6 & 7: Handling Data.
• Weeks 8 & 9: Problem solving and measurement.
• Weeks 10 – 13: Securing number facts, relationships and
calculating.
• Introducing Pythagoras’ theory.
From the summer term the layered Literacy target will be
replaced by a personalised Literacy target. Your child will
soon receive their own personalised literacy target as
identified using their everyday Literacy work.
NUMERACY:
I MUST know my 2, 5, 10 times table.
I SHOULD know the x and ÷ facts for my 2, 5, 10 times tables.
I COULD know the x and ÷ facts for my 3, 4, 6, 7 times table.
I COULD EVEN use all facts when calculating e.g. 123 x 4,
37 x 56.
ART:

To study and recreate the features of Greek pottery. (Year 6 to
recreate Medusa from clay).
To create drawings in the style of the Discus Thrower statue. (Link to
science)
To create Greek jewellery.
TECHNOLOGY:

To create the buildings of Ancient Greece, particularly the Parthenon.
To know the main ingredients of the Ancient Greek diet.
To create a Greek meal, e.g. goat’s milk, olives, bread, figs, vegetables
in olive oil, satziki, vine leaves.
SCIENCE: - Moving and Growing / Solids and Liquids

To understand what gives animals their shape.
To discuss why animals need to move.
To know how animals move.
To know where the main bones in the human skeleton are.
To compare ourselves with other skeletons.

To know that the shape of a solid does not change. To know
that the volume of a liquid does not change when the shape
