Vision
Unlock the full potential
of every student.
Rainbow Lake has been asked to participate in a needs assessment for school improvement created by USC Upstate. The data collected will help influence future career and guidance programming. The survey is about 20 questions and takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. The parent/guardian survey can be found at
http://tinyurl.com/RECparent. We thank you for your participation in this survey.
Yearbooks
Don’t miss your chance to get a copy of “The Gator”! Purchase your yearbook for
$40 in our school’s office or visit jostensyearbook.com to purchase online. Make
sure you purchase a copy of the yearbook while they are still available!!!
PASS Snacks
With PASS testing quickly approaching (March 18th and March 19th) RLMS is starting a snack drive to ensure that all of our students have the energy they need to do
their very best. Students are provided with two drinks and two snacks each day of
testing. We have approximately 708 students, which means each day of testing we
need 1,416 snacks and drinks! If you could help provide any of the following snacks
(Granola bars, Rice Krispy snacks, cheese crackers, peanut butter crackers, etc…)
and/or individual packaged fruit juices we would greatly appreciate it.

A good educational system provides many tools that help children learn. Parents
and families are a big part of a child's success team because a great deal of learning
goes on outside the classroom. The information on the following site ( http://
www.scfriendlystandards.org/) can help you become familiar with what your child
is learning at school and it includes activities to reinforce and support your child's
learning, selected book titles for additional reading, and Web site addresses for
extended learning.
This website provides information for parents and families about what their children should be learning in school for the school year 2013-2014. The information
incorporates the new Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and
Literacy and Mathematics in grades K-8. The standards for Science and Social
Studies incorporate the most recent South Carolina Academic Standards for
those subjects.
The information incorporates the new Common Core State Standards for English
Language Arts & Literacy and Mathematics in grades K-8. Please peruse the academic standards for your child’s grade level.

Letters from the Governor
Four students at Rainbow Lake
Middle School recently received letters from Governor
Nikki Haley. The letters came
as responses to problemsolution letters authored by students and sent to the Governor
on the topic of litter in South
Carolina. Eighth graders November Varnum, Ruslan Matev,
Natalie Hazzard, and Rachel
DiStefano each received a letter
from Governor Haley in response to their specific concerns
about the litter problem in our
state and the solutions they recommended. In her responses, Governor Haley encouraged students to continue to use their voices to promote positive change. The students were very pleased the Governor chose to
correspond with them and felt they were rewarded for their efforts on this research and letter writing assignment. Mark Painter, the students’ English teacher said, “All of the students were diligent in their work and
produced such wonderful writings. I was very proud that Governor Haley had the opportunity to see some
of their work. Four additional students including Kayla Caldwell, Noah Fowler, Cole Hair, and Luke Skory
sent their letters to Governor Haley and look forward to receiving responses as well.”
