April 2016 Minutes - Archangels Catholic Cluster

St James Finance Council April 14,2016
St James Parish Finance Council met April 14, 2016 in Cigrand Hall. Prior to the meeting being
called to order, Father Dubert told the council that each parish in the Archangels cluster needs
a liaison person to connect the parish with the Cluster Office in Garner and with Father. Father
said that the person would communicate needs of the parish as presented by committee
members or by individuals in the parish. St. James will be hiring a person that would work 10 to
15 hours per week, with 8 to 10 hours as the parish liaison and 5 to 6 hours as an Archangels
Cluster employee working with Spanish speaking persons in our area, especially in the Faith
Formation area. Father said he hoped to fill the position by July 1, 2016. The Cluster Council is
reviewing the job description and a job interest notice will be posted in the St James Bulletin.
Person must be a member of St. James Parish. One individual who speaks Spanish has
expressed interest in the position.
Meeting called to order at 6:55pm by John Roisen in the absence of Paul Fitzgerald. Father led
us in prayer. Also present were: Aiden Kelly, Jerry Clouse, Glenn Kiss, Sue Coloff and Kevin
Reicks and Bob Kuefler of the Building and Grounds Committee.
Minutes of the last meeting were changed as follows: The official name of this group will be St
James Finance Council. St James Parish has a Finance Council and a Parish Life Committee. The
Building and Grounds Committee is a subcommittee of the Finance Council. Archangels Cluster
committees are Liturgy, Faith Formation, Stewardship, and Pro Life/ Social Justice. Father has
requested the next meeting be held on April 12 instead of May 5, 2016 so budget matters can
be reviewed in a timely manner. These changes were approved and minutes approved.
1. Parish financials as compiled by the Cluster Office, thru the end of March (end of 3rd Qrt.)
were reviewed. It was noted there is a new envelope in our boxes for donations to a
Savings Account for the parish. There also will be a Benevolent Fund. Some items in the
upcoming budget will be moved to the cluster budget. Meeting to be held in June to
review and approve these changes. Glenn moved and Aiden seconded that financials
submitted be approved. Copy attached.
2. Mowing Contract: Kevin reports that a mowing contract for the church grounds and
cemetery with Juern Akkarmann has been approved.
3. Bob Kuefler reported on the bathroom remodel project. Project overview, background,
scope and cost have been printed and approved. St James bathrooms are not ADA
compliant, need updating and are not equipped for men to change the diapers of their
infants. One bathroom will have a wider door with lock, new fixtures that are ADA
compliant, diaper changing station, and will be available to any person. The second
bathroom with have the urinal removed, new fixtures installed and be available to any
person. Door locks will be installed. Both bathrooms will have new porcelain tile floors
and painting done. Cost is not to exceed $6000.00. Bob Kuefler and the Building and

Grounds Committee will lead a group of volunteers and do much of the work themselves.
Total cost of project is much lower than the architects estimate.
Better lighting over altar area: LED lights will give more light and last much longer then
present lights. Total cost estimate is $500.00. Although this is not part of budget this
year, Building and Grounds committee feels this will be cost and labor saving in the
future. An individual has offered to donate the money to cover this project. Jerry moved
and Aidan seconded we go ahead with the new lighting.
Nominations for additional members to this group: no names or volunteers have
presented themselves. Father said it is not necessary to have more than 3 on the Parish
Finance Committee.
Bob reported on heating and cooling: Nelson Plumbing is looking at alternative units to
serve our needs. More on this to come. Dehumidifiers run most of the time all summer
long. It is difficult to empty the water from them. A system of drain pipes may be
installed. Will not be costly.
New staff persons: Father reported that a new Youth Director for the cluster will begin
work later this summer. The Committee met informally with a candidate for the
Liaison position mentioned at the beginning of this report. This person is a member of
our parish, speaks Spanish and feels they have the administrative and communication
skills to fill this position.
St James Cemetery cleanup by KCs will take place soon. Flower beds in front of church
are being groomed by Gail Kuefler and others.
Motion to adjourn was made at 8:40pm by Glenn. Closing prayer by Father.
Date of next meeting will be announced. Budget for next year needs approval before July.
