Mother's Day at VOP
Life doesn't come with a manual,
but it comes with a mother! We
celebrate Mother?s Day the
second Sunday each May as a
way of honoring the mother of
the family and the influence of
mothers in our society. Most of
us have special memories of our
moms and the advice that they
freely gave! Some advice that
our residents remember is ?Not
to tell a lie?, (Edith Kester),
?Don?t talk back to elders?, (Ann
Trumbly and Boyd Kennedy),
?Treat people how you would
like to be treated?, (Raymond
Trammell), and ?Get home before
dark?, (Jessel Williams). Sooner
or later, it seems we all quote our
moms! For many of us, we

treasure any advice that our
moms gave us and would give
anything for one last hug from
her, but then we can remember
that a mom?s hug lasts long after
she lets go! We are planning a
very special Mother?s Day Tea
this year at VOP to honor all of
our Moms and hopefully get to
spend some time with some of
their children. We will have
special ?Mom snacks?, a string
quartet to entertain us and a
beautiful background to take
pictures and make memories.
Giving it a little twist, our moms
are making gifts to give to their
children! We hope all of our
moms will join us for this great
afternoon.

The 2017 Eggcellent Easter Bunny Exploration
We had a blast this Easter Season with our
first annual "Eggcellent Easter Bunny
Exploration!" 25 pictures of the Easter
Bunny were hidden throughout our building
and our residents had 5 days to write down
the location of each one and turn it in for a
prize!! We had so much participation with
this that we will definitely do it again! It was
so great to see our residents "Hunt'n for
Wabbits!" and getting lots of exercise at the
same time!

Mind, Body & Soul
We had a conversation with Dennis
Jowaisas last month on his 78th birthday!
He had been feeling frustrated that week
because he was thinking about all of the
things he COULD NOT do anymore
because he has gotten older. Then Dennis
realized that there were so many things
that he COULD do and it completely
changed his attitude and mood! That's
what it's all about, folks! Change your
mind and it will change you! Instead of
focusing on what you can't do, focus on
what you can! Think about the positive
things in your life and be grateful for those
things! Do what you CAN do every single
day instead of sitting around thinking about
what you CAN'T do anymore! This picture
of Dennis is a perfect example. How many
78 year olds do you know who can get on
the floor and lift weights? Great job!!
Virginia Nelms' patio is ready for spring!
And the Winner is...
Congratulations to Virginia
Nelms, Beth Edmondson, and
Linda West!! They are the
winners of our 2017 Spring
Patio Contest! These three
ladies worked so hard to
beautify their outdoor space
and make it a little oasis for
them and their neighbors to
enjoy! Our judges picked
Virginia for first place because
her patio was full of color and
looked so inviting! One judge
said, " I just want to sit and
have a cup of coffee!" Beth
took second for her black and
white themed garden! She
planted new flowers and
decorated not only her porch
but her car port as well!

Linda's bright red chairs won
third place for her! She can
comfortably sit with a friend
and enjoy her courtyard any
time she wants to! We are so
proud of all of our residents!
When we announced this
contest we expected some to
participate, but we were blown
away at how many of you
obviously put so much effort
into your patios! It was very
difficult to choose our winners.
Even
those
who
didn't
decorate, cleaned and swept
their porches and we really
want to thank you for that. It
makes our courtyards and our
entire property lovely and ready
for spring! If you don't have a
patio, we want to remind you
that you are welcome in our
main courtyard anytime! There
are benches out by the pond
and tables and chairs for you
to relax! It is so refreshing to
soak up the sun, feel the
breeze on your face and watch
the birds, ducks, and squirrels.
You might even see a rabbit or
two! Springtime is the best
time to enjoy the outdoors.
Bring your morning coffee
outside, grab a good book to
read, or even come out in the
evening to watch the sun go
down...From your patio or ours!
Village on the Park is now an
even more beautiful place to
live !
Making a Difference
Tammie Bohana
Director of Resident Services
Tammie might not be a familiar face to
most of our Independent residents
because she spends her days in our
Assisted Living and Memory Care
neighborhoods! She is an LPN and
manages all of our health care workers!
Tammie has worked at VOP for 2 1/2
years and is married with 5 children and
1 grandchild. She loves our residents
and considers it her passion and
privilege to care for them! When she's
not working, Tammie enjoys being with
her family and participating as a troupe
committee member for her son's Boy
Scout Troupe! We are so glad you are a
part of our awesome team, Tammie!
We are blessed to have you taking care
of our AL and MC residents!
