FRUITS ART FRUIT PRINTS Cut apples, oranges and pears in half. Dip the cut side into paint and print with the fruit. STRAWBERRY MOBILE Need: 5 walnuts Red paint Green felt, Plastic Berry basket, paintbrush, scissors, glue, yarn 1. 2. 3. 4. Paint walnuts red. Glue long piece of green yarn to top of each walnut for hanger. Cut 5 star shapes from green felt. Clip a small hole in the center of each one. String one down the yarn hanger of each walnut strawberry and glue in place. Tie strawberries to the berry basket. Leave four inches of yarn above each knot. Turn the basket upside down so the berries hang down. Tie hanger on top. STRAWBERRY PLAYDOUGH 1 cup flour 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 package unsweetened strawberry Kool-Aid 1/4 cup salt 2 tablespoons cream of tartar 1 cup water Mix flour, salt, cream of tartar and Kool-Aid in a medium saucepan. Add water and oil. Stir over medium heat 3 to 5 minutes. When mixture forms a ball in pan, remove. Knead until smooth. Store in a covered plastic container. BERRY BASKET PRINTING Materials: plastic berry baskets • tempera paints • white paper shallow container or paper plate 1. Pour a small amount of paint into a shallow container or plate. 2. Dip the bottom of a plastic berry basket into the paint. Press it on paper to make designs. 3. Provide several baskets as well as a variety of paint colors. Encourage child to make prints in several bright colors 1 HAND BANANAS Trace child's hand, including small part of the wrist onto white paper. Turn the hand tracing upside down and turn it into a bunch of bananas by having them paint the fingers yellow and the wrist brown. HAND STRAWBERRY Trace child’s hand onto paper. Turn hand upside down. Paint red and add black “seeds.” Top off with a green stem. FINGER GRAPES Dip fingers into purple paint and make grape prints. Use brown marker to add stems. SNACK FRUITY LEATHER ROLL-UPS 2 Cups applesauce ¼ cup honey Microwave safe plastic wrap Microwave safe tray 1. 2. 3. 4. Stir applesauce and honey together in a small bowl. Line a microwave safe tray with plastic wrap. Pour a 1/8” layer of applesauce/honey mixture on top of plastic wrap. Dry the mixture in microwave on Medium setting for 3 minutes. Let cool for 3 minutes and then repeat the process until the leather begins to dry. Results may vary depending on the wattage of the microwave. 5. Remove the leather from tray keeping plastic wrap as backing. Cut into strips and roll it up. NO-BAKE APPLE CRISP Apple Pie Filling Granola Sugar Cinnamon Whipped topping Put 1 scoop of pie filling in cup. Sprinkle on granola, sugar, and cinnamon. Add a dollop of whipped topping. 2 OTHER FUN STUFF SIMON SAYS Play "Simon Says" using a variety of commands in relationship to fruits. Simon Says “Peel a banana" "Pick apples from a tree." "Crack a Coconut" "Squish the grapes" "Eat the cherries" "Squeeze the oranges" ORANGE POMANDER BALL Materialswhole cloves orange cinnamon plastic bag ribbon or netting string 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Push the pointed stems of whole cloves into the skin of an orange. Cover the entire orange. Sprinkle cinnamon into a plastic bag. Place orange in bag. Hold top of bag and shake orange in cinnamon. Remove orange from bag. Tie length or ribbon around orange and knot, or tie orange in net. Tie a second ribbon criss-crossing the first at bottom, and knot at the top. Tie length of string around the knotted ribbon. Hand the ball in a special place. The orange will eventually shrink in size and become hard, but should not lose its scent. SOUND EFFECTS Crack a coconut. After eating the meat, use the empty halves to make hoofbeat sounds. HIDDEN STARS Cut an apple or a pear through the seedpods to reveal the star shape. 3 GAME FRUIT BASKET TURN OVER Give each child a picture of the fruit he is assigned. Children sit in circle on mats. One child is "It" and stands in center of circle. He calls out the name of a fruit. All those with the fruit called must run and exchange places with another player. "It" also tries to get a seat.
