BAKURETSU CON CODE OF CONDUCT
Your membership to the convention is a privilege. Your badge is your proof of membership; never
forget that you are representing Bakuretsu Con once you purchase a badge. Please be respectful to
your fellow convention attendees, the convention staff, and the hotel. We reserve the right to
revoke the membership privileges of any attendee for any reason. If we find your conduct
inappropriate and feel you deserve a warning, one will be given.
If you are given a warning, a hole will be punched in your badge. Only one warning will be given;
any problems after that and you will be asked to leave. If you are asked to leave the convention your
badge fee will NOT be refunded.
OTHER THINGS TO REMEMBER
- If it’s illegal outside of the convention, it’s still illegal here.
- If you are found to be in possession of anything illegal you will be evicted from the
convention and the police may be called.
- There is no smoking in the convention center. Please do not smoke in doorways either.
- No alcohol is permitted in any of the convention areas.
- No weapons allowed. If you buy a weapon from a dealer, please bring it to your room or car.
- We are not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Please don’t leave your belongings
unattended. Lost and found items will be brought to the info desk, or, after the Con, the hotel
front desk.
- Children age 12 and under must be accompanied by someone age 16 or older. Please see the
registration desk if you have any questions.
- Theft will not be tolerated and we WILL prosecute you.
- No outside food in the convention center.
- No lying down/sitting in the hallways.
- No cosplay props over 5’7” are allowed in the convention hall. If an item over this
length is meant for use in the cosplay contest only, it will be stored by the convention staff
until such time, when you may pick it up.
- Please do not bother other hotel patrons.
- Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 AM Sunday, so remember to set your clocks back one
hour before you go to bed Saturday night!
BADGES
You will be given a membership badge when you check in at Registration. Please wear it in a visible
location during the entire convention. Anyone who does not have a badge will not be allowed to
participate in convention events. Do NOT lose your badge. There are NO replacements. You will
have to purchase a new badge if you lose it. No exceptions.

From the Con Chair
I have to admit, I was not prepared to write another Con
Chair’s message this soon. When I retired, I thought I would
have a few years to figure things out, but after just a year
and a half I was back to work. Life is unexpected that way;
these days it seems everyone is always too busy to stop
and talk. I highly encourage everyone to slow down and
take time to enjoy the weekend. It will be over in the blink of
an eye, just like this whole year has flown by for me. What
started out as “plenty of time to get ready for Bakuretsu
Con” turned into “I don’t have enough time to get things
done”!
So here we are again - another year has gone by and we
have just three days to enjoy our hard work. There are many
things to do to prepare for a convention - it really is a lot of
work. But seeing everyone gather and have such a good
time makes it all very much worth it. I really appreciate
everything that the staff puts into making Bakuretsu Con so
special. If you have some free time throughout the year and
you think you want to help out I highly encourge you to
think about joining staff. Better yet, if you are interested
you should head over to Con Ops this weekend and sign up
now. They can tell you about what we do and you can
check things out and see if you think you’d like to help. We
are always looking for extra hands and new ideas. What can
you bring to Bakuretsu Con?
Myself and the staff of Bakuretsu Con hope you will enjoy
this weekend and make lots of memories that will last a life
time. Be sure to check out all of our wonderful programming,
especially our invited guests as they are very interesting
people who work within the Anime Industry or in support of
it. Also be sure to check out the Charity Auction this year as
we have some very special stuff including some signed
merchandise by the creator of Trigun! Have fun, be safe,

From the Director of Programming
The last 5 years (and 6 conventions) have been a roller
coaster. I’ve met the best people you can possibly know,
had some crazy adventures, and done (hopefully) an
acceptable job running programming at Bakuretsu Con.
This will be my last year as Director of Programming (at least
for now). About 5 years ago (actually right before my first
Baku) I was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition
called Kertaconus. It wasn’t bad at first, but at this point my
bad eye is 20/400, and my good eye is about 20/100 uncorrected. In April of this year I had my first surgeries to keep
my good eye from getting worse. It took almost a month for
my vision to come back fully, and I still have lingering
issues related to it. On Tuesday, I’ll be having a corneal
transplant surgery in my bad eye. This surgery has recovery
time measured in years, not weeks, or months and I need to
spend the next while focused on me and my recovery.
I’ll still be around (hopefully), but I won’t be in charge of
Programming. If you see me, wish me luck or don’t. I’d say
“see you around” but that is a bad pun.

KNOW YOUR STAFF MEMBERS
We have created a system of bandannas that all our staff members will be wearing throughout the weekend. The
staffer should be wearing them on their heads, necks or arms. So, if you need to find us, here’s what to look for:
Red:
Normal staffers. Most issues can be brought up to them, and they can help immediately.
Green:
Security. They are here to help and keep us all safe!
Yellow:
Volunteers. They run around, handling most of the nitty-gritty jobs.
Teal:
Executive Staff. If you have a serious issue, these are the guys to look for!

NEW TO CONS?
Some definitions to help you navigate the Con!
ADR - Automated Dialog Replacement. The process whereby
Japanese dialog is replaced with English dialog.
AMV - Anime Music Video. The pairing of anime video clips
with a music soundtrack.
Con - Short for Convention. Has nothing to do with Con men
(we hope!).
Cosplay - A performance art in which participants wear costumes to represent a specific character.
Crossplay - Cosplay in which the person dresses up as a
character of a different gender
LARP - Live Action Role Playing. A role playing game which
is live as opposed to video.
Mecha - An anime genre that centers around robots or machines controlled by people from inside.
OVA - Original Video Animation. Animated films and series
made specially for release in home-video formats.
RPG - Role Playing Game. A game in which players assume
the roles of characters in a fictional setting.

Terri Doty - ADR & Voice Actress
Standing in the booth, after voicing her first character in Tsubasa: Reservoir
Chronicle in 2008, Terri Doty knew what she wanted to do – make nachos.
And that she wanted to keep working in the world of anime.
Since then, she has lent her voice to a multitude of characters, like, Alice Kiriki
in Okami-san & Her Seven Companions, Virgo/Jellal Fernandes (young) in
Fairy Tail, Ohara in Deadman Wonderland (which just finished airing on
Toonami), Tsunami in Fractale, Yuuka Koyama/Yuuji Sakamoto (young) in
Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts, Nella/Jiji in Dance in the Vampire Bund,
Kamika Todoroki in Corpse Princess (aka Shikabane Hime), Naia in The
Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Festum in Fafner: Dead Aggressor:
Heaven & Earth, and Maria in Black Butler, just name a few.
Terri interned at Funimation Entertainment shortly before graduating college.
Then she was offered a job as Voice Director for such shows as Big Windup!,
RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne, Corpse Princess, Rideback, and Baka and
Test: Summon the Beasts. She has also written adaptive scripts for Corpse
Princess and Initial D: Fourth Stage.
In early 2010, Terri teamed up with J. Michael Tatum and Stephen Hoff to start
That Anime Show, a podcast that occasionally talks about anime among randomness. Colleagues from the anime industry visit That Anime Show and give
listeners an interesting look into their unpredictable, and often hilarious, lives. It is
available for download through www.thatanimeshow.com and iTunes.
David Williams - Sentai Filmworks
David Williams has been in the anime industry for over 20 years doing everything from subtitling to DVD production, marketing to ADR directing. As an
ADR director with ADV Films, he directed shows such as D.N. Angel, Angelic
Layer, Pretear, Najica Blitz Tactics and many others too numerous to list. He is
currently working with Sentai Filmworks where he has helped to bring out titles
such as High School of the Dead, Angel Beats, Clannad and many others. He
has authored hundreds of DVDs and BDs, subtitled more shows than he can
count and been instrumental in bringing hundreds of shows to the US.
Shannon Bouchard - Singer
Shannon Bouchard’s first experience of singing was in McGill Conservatory
Children’s Choir. She has participated in two other choirs to date. She is the
2012 winner of Otakuthon Idol. She performed at the Otakuthon Opening
Ceremonies 2013. She was second runner up in the Hong Kong Student Network of McGill’s SING competition 2013. She has also played flute since she
was 3 years old and participated in several orchestras, including solos and
European tours. Shannon is a big fan of Avatar the Last Airbender, Harry
Potter, Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist, and cosplays every chance she
gets.

Stephen Hoff - Audio Engineer
Stephen has been perfecting his skills as an audio engineer for the better part of
a decade. His career began by attending Media Tech (formerly known as Dallas
Sound Lab) and interning at Eagle Audio. Its worth mentioning that Stephen is
just one of several Funimation Entertainment regulars in the audio scene that
also studied there. Other Dallas Sound Lab alumni include: Kenneth Thompson,
Andrew Tipps, Adrian Cook, and Nathanael Harrison.
For the past several years, Stephen has had the fortune of working on several
anime titles: Fractale, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and Steins;Gate
with Colleen Clinkenbeard; Black Butler (both seasons) with Ian Sinclair,
Linebarrels of Iron with Caitlin Glass, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone
with Mike McFarland, and Sgt. Frog with Joel McDonald. Other credits include
Fairy Tail, Heroic Age, Initial D, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Full Metal
Alchemist, Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino, and One Piece.
Along with anime, Stephen has a fondness for doing sound for live venues, films,
and podcasts. He has engineered at Fort Worth’s Ridglea Theater and Deep
Ellum’s Red Blood Club. You can occasionally catch Mr. Hoff running sound for
Stephanie Young’s band, The Brehms (www.thebrehmsband.com). His film work
includes the low budget film, Kodie. Stephen is also the audio mastermind
behind the podcast, That Anime Show (www.thatanimeshow.com).
Matthew Myers - Leet Street Boys
Matthew Myers is a professional music composer and producer in the video
games industry living in the Boston area. Matt’s work has been featured in
numerous PC, online and mobile games over the past 7 years. Matt is also the
lead singer and songwriter for the otaku band LeetStreet Boys, creators of the
hit single Yuri The Only One as seen on YouTube and Video Games Live.
Scott Melzer - NoN.D.E. Fanfilms
An anime fan since birth in 1966, Scott grew up on Speed Racer and Star
Blazers, having no idea of the shows’ origins. In college he learned the truth:
they were Japanese, and there were uncut versions of these shows! And there
were conventions! Rabid otakunization soon followed. In 2001 he tried his hand
at directing fan parodies, and the homage to fans and fandom This Is Otakudom
was the result, followed by S.T.E.A.M.: The Movie in 2005.
Scott’s life then dramatically changed when he closed his anime/comics/games
store and was hospitalized for diabetes. He survived his 50/50 chance and
decided to begin a new life as a financial advisor, helping families save their
money and achieve their dreams. He now works behind the scenes staffing
conventions, promoting fan parodies, and encouraging others to create their own.

Bakuretsu Con's Amine Music Video Contest is an exhibition
and competition of fan-created music videos with an anime
theme. Submissions from across the globe were narrowed down
to a group of finalists for Baku con-goers to enjoy and vote
for their favorites during the show. Winners will be announced
during the Cosplay Contest.

A performance event for cosplayers of all skill levels to show
off their costumes. Contestants perform in either a walk-on or
a skit. There are both a competitive and noncompetitive rounds.

All skill levels welcome, only slightly tricky. Ideal for cats,
wolves, ponies or any small, slightly pointed ear animal. One
simple pattern piece, an easier-than-it-looks flip, and some
fussy little hand-sewing stitches. Honest to goodness, that’s
all it takes! Students will be shown how to create from scratch
a set of roughly palm-sized fleece ears. Don’t care for fleece?
Please feel free to bring your own fur or fabric. Lightweight
materials work best for this particular design. The ears sit on a
pair of flexible metal clips, and work well in most long-enoughto-wear-barrettes hair types.

Aikido is a Japanese nonviolent martial art that emphasizes
blending and harmonious movement. The word Aikido is made
up of three characters. The first and most important is “Ai”
which means to “meet, come together, or harmonize”. The second is “Ki” which means "soul, mind, spirit". In a larger context, Ki can mean the spirit of the universe. The third and last
character is "Do" which means “the way”. As such, Aikido
can be interpreted as “the path, or way, of harmonizing with
the universe”. Students of Aikido learn graceful and powerful
martial techniques that respect the intent, power and connection of an opposing force to resolve differences, rather than
responding with brute strength and combative strategies.

The tabletop games room, located in the hotel lobby, has
a wide selection of card and board games, RPG supplements, and games of skill and chance. Stop by to check
the schedule of events and play a few games. Munchkins,
Fluxx, other, older and anime-inspired titles make the game
