School Fruit Pro
Record High of Participating Schools in Joyful Fruit Month 2015
As at 28 February 2015, the Joyful Fruit Month activity has attracted the participation or support of
over 1300 schools (including 176 secondary schools, 433 primary schools and 692 pre-primary
institutions). In this academic year, the number of participating students has already exceeded
500,000 and the quota for applying for funding to organise the “School Fruit Promotion Project”
among secondary schools is already full. We are very thankful to the school sector for their
enthusiasm in promoting fruit eating habit. In April 2015, we hope that the fruit eating culture
promoted by the Joyful Fruit Month would become popular throughout Hong Kong.
This year, Joyful Fruit Month is going to join the EatSmart Restaurants campaign
of the Department of Health (DH) in promoting the culture of eating more fruit. In
March, the DH will distribute coupons among the schools participating in or
supporting Joyful Fruit Month. The schools will re-distribute the coupons to their
students, whereby the students and their families could get a free serving of fruit
after ordering EatSmart dishes in designated EatSmart Restaurants during the
course of Joyful Fruit Month in April. To commence with solemnity, Joyful Fruit
Month and EatSmart Restaurants are going to inaugurate the joint event on 30
March (Monday) at Olympian City.
Joyful Fruit Month - Joint Promotion between
Campuses and Communities
Fruit is beneficial to our health. Students, adults and the elderly should eat fruit
every day and try different fruits to benefit from food diversity. In light of this, DH
printed a special poster for community promotion, calling for a favourable
response from the citizen to Joyful Fruit Month. In April, these posters will be
posted around the estates under the Hong Kong Housing Authority, private
housing premises, venues under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department
and markets under the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
Great Variety of Ways to Promote Fruit Eating Culture
To welcome Joyful Fruit Month, pre-primary institutions, primary and secondary
schools participated in the activity will initiate various fruit promotion activities.
Pre-primary Institution Sector will hold brand new events such as “Vote for
My Favourite Fruit”, “Fruit Diary Card Award Scheme” and “Fruit Colouring Game”.
Primary School Sector will hold “DIY Handicraft Activities”, “Fruit Origami Games”, “English Crossword Puzzles”
and “Billboard Competition”.
Secondary School Sector will continue to let students to form different
fruit promotion groups to design and hold various fruit promotion activities
catering for the preferences of youngsters under the guidance of their
teachers, e.g. fruit parties, game booths, fruit cooking classes/
competitions, fruit quiz and interclass food eating contests, etc.
Once again, we would like to express our gratitude to all the pre-primary
institutions, and primary and secondary schools concerned for their
enthusiastic participation in fruit promotions, painstaking design and
preparation of various promotion activities, and assistance in
developing the good habit of eating fruit every day among
students from childhood. Let us all push the exciting atmosphere
of eating more fruit to the climax in April (Joyful Fruit Month)!

Comic
I love eating watermelon.
It’s sweet and juicy.
Why don’t we plant
a watermelon tree
so that we could
eat watermelon
every day?
It is a vine-like plant and lies
on ground only.
Haha, watermelon does
not grow on tree!
2
You can place watermelon seeds
into soil. You may even grow a
cubic watermelon!

Very
anticipating!
Yes! When the plant starts
to form watermelons, we
just have to put one of
them into a cubic glass
container. As it ripens, it
would become cubic.
