Northwest Ballet and the Intiman Theater (see map with arrow below). Sign
in and pickup up your assignment sheet.
1-3:45 PM: Have fun exploring the amazing features in the Science Expo.
You will explore the Science Expo on your own and complete the assignment
by 3:45.
3:45PM: Meet UW MSUB staff in the same open space between the Pacific
Northwest Ballet and the Intiman Theater and turn in your assignment.
4PM: The Science Expo Field Trip ends. Be careful returning home!
Note: The Science Expo runs from 10 AM to 6PM, so feel free to come early
or stay late to explore more of the Expo!
EXPO DAY STAGE PROGRAMS
SCIENCE EXPO DAY STAGES ARE EMCEED BY: KOMO METEOROLOGIST SETH WAYNE
AND THE GEEKY HOSTESS, TARA THEOHARIS
The award-winning Pacific Northwest Drumline Association, a synchronized musical
and athletic showcase based in the historically black college/university tradition of
the show-style marching band, will open EXPO Day with riveting rhythms, bold beats
and ear-grabbing energy!
Amazing Air 10:20 AM
It’s all around us, making objects contract, expand and sometimes even rise above
the ground. Experience the hidden power of high and low air pressure through live
experimentation! Audiences are sure to see air as never before as they observe air
move things in unexpected ways, break a board in half, take a ride on a hovercraft,
and much more! Liquid nitrogen for Amazing Air is donated by Airgas Specialty Gases.

Gravity and Magnetism and Charge, Oh My! 10:40 AM
Have you ever wanted to be a mad scientist? Do you have an answer to what is
gravity, magnetism or charge? Science doesn’t have the answer to these questions,
but maybe you do. Come find out how to be a mad scientist!

Massive Monkees 11 AM
World champion dance crew, Massive Monkees, will demonstrate the dance styles
“breaking,” “popping” & “locking” and teach a mini workshop to audience volunteers.
This program is fun and safe for all ages!
Comedy Theremin by Duo Finelli 11:30 AM
The theremin, the world’s first electronic instrument, is most famous for its other-worldly
sounds featured in spooky movies of the 1950s. Luz Gaxiola of Duo Finelli gives a
vaudeville-style presentation about how the theremin works and its fascinating history,
followed by a musical performance on this ethereal instrument.
Arms and Armour:
The Science of Swordfighting—Knights of Veritas 11:50 AM
How did knights really fight in all that armour? Were swords and armour heavy?
How was science used in a swordfight? The answers to these questions and others
might surprise you!
How Things Work!—Anything is Possible
Theatre Company 12:30 PM
This lively children’s musical follows two young scientists on an unexpected journey
through another dimension where they encounter Albert Einstein, Archimedes, and
the greatest scientist of all, Mother Nature. The story demonstrates the wonders of
science while examining the risks of creating such a vast and complicated world.
JORDAN O’ JORDAN 12:50 PM
Like a quilt made from lab coats and sequined sweaters, biochem-troubadour
Jordan O’ Jordan stitches crooner ballads from water molecules and Appalachian
folk songs. For the Seattle Science Festival, Jordan will be relating his favorite
Cosmic Romantic Comedy (ComRomCom)—all about the formation theories of
the Moon!

If you missed them the first time, here’s your second chance to see world champion
dance crew, Massive Monkees perform a short demonstration in the dance styles of

Come hear Dr. Mike Steele talk about what it’s like to do field work while standing
on the Arctic Ocean. There will be audience participation, salty ice and extremely
cold things smashed into a zillion pieces!
The Not-ITS! 2:20 PM
The Not-Its! are Seattle’s most rockin’ band for children & families! Come help them
rock EXPO day to songs like “First Kid In Outer Space,” “Mathematics” and “Cheetah
The Buffalo!”
Danger Science 3 PM
The effects of this spectacular live show are so large, we can only do them outside!
Witness extremes in temperature and pressure as things explode and fly in all sorts of
unexpected ways. Audiences may be left drenched with water in the summer sun by the
last demonstration of the show...it really makes a splash! Gases for Danger Science are
donated by Airgas Specialty Gases. Presented by Pacific Science Center.
Circuit Bending for Non-Geeks 3:20 PM
Are you thrilled by theremins? Bedeviled by blips and bloops? Hypnotized by
hot-wiring? This interactive program will teach you to safely “bend” 10 electronic
musical instruments using basic electronic components. Then watch a LIVE performance
by Los Mysteriosos Sobrosos Elegantes as they exhibit the electronic magic you, too,
can make in the comfort of your own home.

Soul Senate bridges the decidedly funky sounds of the 60s & 70s with a distinct modern
flavor in the vein of Amy Winehouse, James Brown, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and
Fitz & the Tantrums. With sizzling horns, powerful vocals, and a groovin’ rhythm section,
this is a group that gets people off their feet with uplifting and spirited sounds and
engaging stage performances—like a BBQ and house party all rolled into one.

Our psychic can read minds, bend matter and see into the future. Look inside the world
of magicians, conjurers and psychics and discover the science behind it. Is seeing really
believing? Presented by Pacific Science Center.
The Redwood Plan 5:20 PM
The Redwood Plan is an explosive, high-energy band propelled by succinct, melodic
hooks and riffs. Seattle Weekly raves, “Firing on all cylinders, blasting through
high-energy, danceable electro-pop with nary a rest in sight.” KEXP’s Kevin Cole
