ANY NEEDS, THOUGHTS, CONCERNS, QUESTIONS, MISUNDERSTANDINGS, SUGGESTIONS,
ETC. that you may have, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Council or Father Joe
immediately. Explanations/Corrections/Discussions/Changes will never be made unless all bring these
concerns to us. Let us remain the united and caring community that we are!
SUMMER IS GREAT… It’s a time to relax, to vacation, to
take life at a slower pace. However, the summer months
pose special problems for your church. Bills still come in
even though income is down. Due to vacations, our normal
Sunday offerings are way down and at the same time, our bingo
revenues are also down. Don’t forget that your church is as important
to the work of the Lord during the summer as at any other time of the
year. There is no vacation time from the expenses of the Church. Just
as you wouldn’t neglect other bills for two months or more, please
do not neglect the Lord’s work. Please help us by keeping your
financial commitment current this summer.
A VOCATION VIEW: This Sunday shows the fruit of the outpouring of the Spirit upon us at
Pentecost: the Saints. The Holy Spirit makes us holy. We become part of one another’s salvation. We
serve Christ in one another as members of the One Body, the Church. We become the Body of Christ
present and acting in the world. We each have a ministry, a necessary ministry. Christ is calling many
to the priesthood, a “ministry” to the “ministers”. Pray that there may be a generous and dedicated
response to this call.
FESTIVAL MEETING: An important meeting as a follow-up of the last one will be held this
Wednesday, June 14th at 6:30pm in the Cultural Center to continue to discuss in detail the event which
will be held on Sunday, July 30th, 2017. All committee members are urged to attend and anyone
interested in joining the group is most welcomed!
BUDGET ENVELOPE USERS: If, for any reason, you do not receive your budgetpackets, please contact Father Joe at 722-l345 immediately. In this way, he will be able to
notify the company at once, and in turn they will mail you a first class packet.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS

on a regular and consistent basis, are really hurting your Parish physically, spiritually,
socially, and financially. We are a small community and one person makes a difference.
May He bless your concern!

been required to pay to the banks The Orthodox Herald
LITURGY ARRANGEMENTS: Please be advised that the list of Liturgy Intentions is
prepared in advance of the Sundays the intentions are remembered. If you have an
intention for a particular date, please call the rectory well in advance of the date you would
like it celebrated, or send it to the rectory in writing, in the envelopes provided in the
narthex of the church, or put it in the collection basket. Otherwise, we may not be able to
accommodate your wishes. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. DO NOT USE THE
LITURGY INTENTION CARDS THAT COME WITH ENVELOPES!!! They are
spiritual bouquets and should only be sent to the bereaved family with your return address
or placed at the wake which could take place in the church or funeral home.
25 WEEK CLUB: At the printing of this bulletin, a meeting was taking place to discuss the
new club. More information will be forthcoming of the results of this meeting.
On this day the Church celebrates the memory of
all the holy men and women "resting in the faith, the
forefathers, fathers, patriarchs, prophets, apostles,
preachers, evangelists, martyrs, confessors, ascetics
and for every holy soul who has run the course in
the faith" (Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom).
Every saint has a feast day on some day of the year,
but many are commemorated only by various
Churches. This feast honors all the Saints of the
Catholic Church.
DO YOU FEEL THAT TOO MUCH INVOLVEMENT/COMMITMENT IS BEING ASKED
OF YOU? Or rather, do you think that it might be beneficial to thank God that someone is
continually asking to maintain what you have and what your children will hopefully have one day,
God-willing? By the way, God wills it! How about you? THANK YOU to all who understand
and appreciate what CHURCH is all about! You yourselves are so much appreciated here!
FEAST OF THE DİVİNE BODY OF OUR LORD, GOD AND SAVİOR JESUS CHRİST
The Feast of the Divine Body, known in the Western Church as Corpus Christi, was instituted by Pope
Urban IV in the year 1264 and became popular among the Melkites, particularly in the eighteenth century,
at the time of Patriarch Maximos II Hakeem. A monk of the Basilian Order composed its beautiful Office.
Both the Office and the Divine Liturgy of the Feast commemorate the passion and death of the Lord. The
Holy Table is the continuation of Calvary and the Liturgy announces the death of Christ, present as a
Victim under the appearances of bread and wine. His body nailed to the cross and his blood drained out of
Him are offered to the Father, by Him, by the priest and by the attendance. If we wish to share in the
sacrifice, we should also consume the Victim in the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist. This Feast is celebrated
on Thursday, May 26th, but will celebrate the solemnity on Sunday, May 29th.
ATTENTION: Please observe the restricted parking zones on the Church complex
especially the handicapped area that has a placard on the rear-view mirror.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE CHURCH OFFICE with any change of address or telephone number
information. This will cut down on returned mail and time waste.
We recall the memory of all the saints on the first Sunday after Pentecost as a reminder that all
holiness is the work of the Holy Spirit. This call to holiness is extended to all of us. The Holy
Apostles received the Spirit on Pentecost and immediately began to truly take up the mission of
our Savior. The saints, inspired by the Holy Spirit, only then were able to fill their lives with God.
To become holy, to fill our lives with the Lord, we must open ourselves to the work of the Holy
Spirit Who was set upon us at the time our Chrismation. Sainthood lies within the realm of all true
Christians. It is not the exceptional in the Christian way of life, but the norm. We live in a world
that would have us believe otherwise, a world which has closed itself to the gifts of the Holy
Spirit. Let us resist the deadness of this world for the life in the Spirit. Let us indeed become
saints!
PARISH REGISTRATION: Are you formally registered with this Parish Church? How about your
relatives and friends? Although this may not be the custom in some of the countries of our origin, it is the
accepted procedure here. We cannot be of service to you if we do not know you as a member of our Parish
Family. Some benefits that flow from this are receiving the parish mailings highlighting the ongoing activities
and life of the church, having the Sacraments of Baptism, Marriage and also Funerals celebrated for your
family here in our church, receiving Letters of Recommendation, Introduction, Freedom to Marry Certificates,
having the privilege and duty to support the church, etc. Merely attending here on any level does not really
constitute being a member. Membership too has its ongoing responsibilities. Please contact Father Joe, or the
Deacons, to formally register.
SUPPORT GROUP: A newly formed separated and divorced support group will soon begin at La
Salette Retreat and Conference Center in Attleboro, MA.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dorothy Lavesque at:
508-642-1928 or [email protected].
La Salette Retreat Center is the location for a new bi-weekly support group for separated and
divorced persons. It will begin on June 6, 2017 and will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 pm every other
Tuesday evening.
PLEASE NOTE: Before making any ENGAGEMENT/BAPTISM/MARRIAGE/RECEPTION
PLANS, please contact the Church in advance. We would rather not have you disappointed if
you’ve already made commitments without checking our schedule first.

Pope: A good Christian spreads hope – not bitterness
On Wednesday Pope Francis said the Holy Spirit has the power to
fill us with the hope of Christ, in turn making us Christians vessels
that bring hope to others, rather than bitterness or desperation.
“The Holy Spirit makes us not only able to hope, but also to be
sowers of hope, that we too are, like him and thanks to him – the
“paraclete” – consolers and defenders of our brothers, sowers of
hope,” Pope Francis said May 31.
“A Christian can sow bitterness, can sow perplexity, and this is not Christian,” he said, adding:
“whoever does this is not a good Christian. Sow hope: sow the oil of hope, sow the fragrance of
hope, and not the vinegar of bitterness and hopelessness.”
Francis continued his reflections on the virtue of hope during the weekly general audience in St.
Peter’s Square, this time centering on the role of the Holy Spirit in anticipation of the Feast of
Pentecost. Hope is simultaneously, as St. Paul tells us in his letter to the Hebrews, like an anchor
and a sail, the Pope said. “If the anchor is what gives the boat safety and keeps it ‘anchored’
between the waves of the sea, the sail, instead, is what makes it proceed and advance on the
waters.” “Hope is really like a sail; it collects the wind of the Holy Spirit and transforms it into a
driving force pushing the boat, depending on the case, offshore or to shore,” he explained.
“The Spirit is the wind that drives us forward, that keeps us on the road, makes us hear pilgrims and
strangers, and does not allow us to sit and become a ‘sedentary’ people.” This is why hope does not
disappoint: “because there is the Holy Spirit within us that pushes us forward, always!” he said. It’s
also because of the Holy Spirit that we have the ability to rest in hope, and have hope even “against
all hope,” as St. Paul says in Romans, the Pope continued. To illustrate his point, Francis pointed to
Abraham’s obedience when God asked him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, and to the Virgin Mary
as she stood at the foot of the cross of her son, Jesus, as examples of this supernatural hope. It is
possible to have this kind of “invincible” hope, he said, because the Holy Spirit helps us to recognize
that we are children and heirs of God.
Again pointing to St. Paul’s letter to the Romans, Francis noted that “hope does not disappoint,
because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been
given to us.” “The expression ‘God of hope’ does not just mean that God is the object of our hope,
that is, the one we hope to reach one day in eternal life; it also means that God is the one who
already makes us hope, indeed, makes us ‘happy in hope,’” he said. According to a popular saying,
“as long as there is life, there is hope.” While this is true, the Pope said that the converse is also
true: “As long as there is hope, there is life. Men need hope to live.”
Quoting from a speech of Bl. John Henry Cardinal Newman, Francis said: “Educated by our own
suffering, by our own sorrow, indeed by our own sins, we will have a mind and heart practiced in
every work of love towards those that have need.” “We will be, in measure of our capacity,
consolers in the image of the Paraclete,” the Pope said. “That is, the Holy Spirit, and in all the
senses that this word implies: advocates, helpers, comforters. Our words and our counsel, our way
of acting, our voice, our gaze, will be gentle and peaceful.”
“Brothers and sisters, the coming feast of Pentecost – which is the birthday of the Church, eh? – we
find ourselves together in prayer, with Mary, the Mother of Jesus and of us,” he said in conclusion.
“And the gift of the Holy Spirit makes us abound in hope,” he said, but explained that there is more:
the Holy Spirit “makes us ‘waste’ hope with all those who are most needy, the most discarded and
with all those who need it.”
