Episode One: What Started it all
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“We’re here gathered today to remember two men, two
siblings, two sons. . . .” a man said as he stood in front of an
audience, “We. . . . we’re here because these friends are no longer
with us. Edgar, he was a great man, until 2000’s incident happened.
Everyone loved him, and as for Gabriel, he hadn’t been seen in
years, but his family members remember him as a child, he. . . . he
was a caring kid, and we’ll all miss him, that’s all I want to say.” the
man said as he sat down. Another man stood up. He cleared his
throat and
fixed his red bow tie. James Brighton.
“Thank you Mr. Fordman, those are some kind words you have
spoken, and I thank all of you for your heartwarming words, does
anyone have anything else to say before we leave?” James asked.
“I have a few words,” a man said as he showed himself from
behind a tree. He was still hidden by shadows.
“Do we know you?” James asked.
“Well, no. But I do know you, and I do remember Edgar,” the
man said.
“Who are you?” James asked. The man stepped out of the
shadows. He was wearing a black suit. He had a purple shirt, a
yellow bow tie. He was looking down at the ground. A yellow top hat
hid his face.
“My name is. . . . well you know who I am,” the man said.
“Uh. . . . no we don’t,”
“Well yes you do, but. . . .” he lifted his head, “my name is Ben,
but you can just call me Mr. Teller,”
“Well Mr. Teller, what do you have to say about Edgar and
Gabriel?”
“Many things,” Ben said.
“Well, I guess you can say a few words,” James said.
“Thank you Mr. Brighton. . . .” Ben said as he stood in front of
the crowd, “Edgar was always a creative kid, he loved inventing
things from the day he turned six and saw his father building a
robot, he watched and it inspired him to create. And as for Gabriel,
he loved to venture, he loved danger, they both had characteristics
that their father had, when their father died, all of their
characteristics died along with him,”
“How do you know all of that?” James asked in shock. Ben
looked at him.
“You’ll know soon.” he said as he turned and left the funeral.
“Mr. Teller!” James shouted. Ben turned back at him.
“Yes Mr. Brighton?” Ben asked.
“Who. . . . are you?” James asked. Ben smiled slightly, tipped
his hat and went on his way.
Episode Two: Return
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
James sat reading the newspaper on his recliner. Suddenly
there was a knock on the door. James put his newspaper down and
stood up.
He opened the door. It was the mailman.
“I have a letter for you,” the mailman said handing him the
letter.
“Thank you,” James said taking the letter.
“Have a good day now.” the mailman said leaving the doorstep.
“You too.” James said closing the door. James sat down and
looked at the letter. The envelope was pure white like a cloud. He
tore it open and pulled out a sheet of paper with writing on it. He
read it carefully.
Dear Mr. Brighton, it has come to my attention that I need your
help. Something bad has happened and it happened thanks to your
brother Gabriel. If you are interested in helping me. Meet me at A-3 at
the docks, at 9:00 tonight. Sincerely Benjamin Teller. Suddenly, there
was another knock on the door. “Coming!” he shouted as he got up
from his recliner once again.
He opened the door. It was his sister Samantha.
“What are you doing here?” James asked.
“I got a letter from that man that showed up at Edgar and
Gabriel’s funeral!” Samantha said as she pulled an opened envelope
out of her purse.
“I got one too,” James said pulling Samantha inside.
“So are you going to meet him at the docks?” Samantha asked.
“I’m not sure? It doesn’t seem like a good idea,” James said.
“I agree, but there’s something about this Mr. Teller that seems
strange. I feel like I know Mr. Teller. I feel that I’ve met him before.
“You know what? I have that feeling too,” James said.
“Do you think we should trust him?” Samantha asked.
“I guess, we’ll leave around eight tonight and head to the
docks,” James said.
“Okay, I’ll stay here until then.” Samantha said.
~8:45 PM~
James pulled up to dock A-3 and parked. He and Samantha
stepped out. They could see their breath. It was twenty degrees.
“Why is it so cold tonight?” Samantha asked.
“I don’t know,” James said.
“I’m so glad you could make it,” a voice said. The silhouette of a
man formed from the fog. It was Mr. Teller.
“So what exactly do you need our help with?” Samantha asked.
Her arms crossed.
“Gabriel began building something two years before his death.
His real death. He named it Skully, Edgar lost his life saving the
world from that bots destructive plans,” Mr. Teller said.
“And?” James asked.
“I believe that Skully is still alive,” Mr. Teller said.
“Why do you think that this Skully is still alive?” Samantha
asked.
“Because someone bombed a town, ninety seven percent of the
town was destroyed,” Mr. Teller said.
“What makes you think Skully did this?” James asked.
“Two surviving witnesses. They witnessed a fight between a
man who rescued them and Skully,” Mr. Teller said.
“What do you need our help with?” Samantha asked.
“I need your help to find and capture Skully before he does any
more damage,” Mr. Teller said.
“Why us?” Samantha asked.
“Because, you have experience with robots,” Mr. Teller
answered.
“I guess that makes sense.” James said shrugging at Samantha.
“So will you help me?” Mr. Teller asked.
“We suppose we can help,” the two siblings said.
“Good, first we need to get one more person to join our
journey.” Mr. teller said.
“Who?” Samantha asked.
“You wouldn’t know him but his name is Daniel. Daniel
Cardindire.”
~On the Other Side of Town~
Guards patrolled the local police cold storage unit. They moved
up and down, their flash lights searching around every shadow. But
one by one guards were being taken down. One final guard who
stood in front of a locked door labeled Case: Brighton.
“You’re not getting in here!” the guard said. His voice
trembling.
“Oh, are you so sure of that? Say, I can sense the fear in your
voice,” a man said. He walked up to the guard until he was face to
face with him. The guard stared into the man’s red pupils. He
watched the man smile, his teeth like knives. The man stepped back
and took his gray top hat off. He dusted it off and then placed it back
on his head.
“Just leave and I won’t report you,” the guard said.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I can’t leave without my friends,” the man said
grabbing the man by his neck and lifting him into the air. The guard
began feeling drained of his creative ability.
“Without creativity, the mind is useless,” the man said, “Skully,
come here and get this door open!” he yelled to the shadows.
Suddenly, two white eyes shined from the darkness as he stepped
out of the shadows and up to the door. He ripped the cold steel door
off its hinges and threw it at the wall. There behind the door, three
robots hung from chains. The room was kept extremely cold. Cold
enough to freeze the robots but warm enough to keep the robots
from breaking. “May the plan begin!” the man said with an evil
laugh. He fixed his gray bow tie before walking into the cold prison
of a room.
Episode Three: Cause
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Is this where the Brighton Bots are supposed to be?” James
asked.
“Yes, but there’s cops everywhere,” Mr. Teller said. A cop
walked close to the car as it pulled into the parking lot. Mr. Teller
rolled down his window for the cop.
“Gentlemen, ma’am, I’m afraid I’m going to need to ask for you
to leave, there’s been an incident and we’re not letting reporters in.
“Ah but sir, we’re not reporters,” Mr. Teller said.
“Then what are you doing here?” the cop asked.
“I’m here to find out on whether the Brighton Bots are still
here,” Mr. Teller said.
“Well you’re too late, the bots were just stolen, we got
everything on camera and let me tell you, it’s not a pretty sight,” the
cop said.
“Is there anyway we can see the footage?” Mr. Teller asked.
“No, it’s classified evidence, but I will tell you one thing, the
thief wore a similar outfit to yours, a suit, a top hat, and bow tie,” the
cop said.
“Please don’t tell me you’re going to arrest me because you
think I’m the thief,” Mr. Teller said.
“No because they are the faces, and they’re completely
different. The man on the feed, he looked like a monster. He also
looked like he had been through many wars, and you, you look like a
human being,” the cop said.
“Thanks, I guess,” Mr. Teller said, “look we’ll do you a favor
and leave but can you tell me anything else?”
“One thing, the thief had a robot with him. It had a similar
build to the Brighton Bots.” the cop said.
“Thank you officer.” Mr. Teller said as he he pulled away and
left.
“There’s something you two don’t know about this world,” Mr.
Teller said to James and Samantha.
“What’s that?” James asked.
“You’ll see,” Mr. Teller said as he turned his car so it began
driving for a Building wall.
“Mr. Teller what are you doing?” Samantha asked.
“Don’t worry,” Mr. Teller said as he began accelerating.
“Are you trying to kill us!” James screamed.
“Three. . . .”
“Mr. Teller stop the car!” Samantha screamed. A slot on the car
hood slowly opened and a gun like tool popped out and began
charging.
“Two. . . .”
“Mr. Teller! Stop the car!” the two siblings screamed not even
noticing the gun.
“One. . . .”
“Why are you counting down!” Samantha screamed. James
didn’t say anything. He noticed the gun and saw that it was getting
ready to fire.
“Boom!” Mr. Teller screamed as the gun fired a beam of purple
light at the wall. The beam hit the wall and spread over it creating a
portal. Mr. Teller drove through the portal and onto a white road.
James and Samantha speechless.
“You asked what you don’t know about this world. You’re not
the only world,” Mr. Teller said.
“Where are we?” James asked. The sky was white, the grass
was white, the trees and plants were white. Absolutely everything
was white.
“Welcome my friends to the Canvas,” Mr. Teller said.
“Where are we going?” James asked.
“My home in Teller City,” Mr. Teller said.
“Teller City?” Samantha asked.
“Another world.” Mr. Teller said.
~A Few Days Earlier~
The man with the gray top hat walked through the Canvas with
Skully. They made their way to a white brick wall with a portal on it
with a sign next to it that read Knife’s Edge.
“This is it,” the man said.
“We’ll fire the rocket through here so we don’t have to deal
with the citizens and then you go through the portal and then collect
as many hearts as you can, and remember. . . . no witnesses!” the
man commanded Skully.
“No need to worry, I will leave no survivors.” Skully said as he
walked over to a huge rocket launcher with a diameter of one foot.
He switched it on and fired it. He watched its black tail of smoke
follow the rocket through the portal.
“Now go Skully!” the man commanded. Skully smiled and ran
through the portal.
