Meet our new Childr en’s Librarian!
Have you noticed a new face in the library?
I am so happy to introduce myself as the
new Children’s Librarian. My name is Mary
Anne Grieve. I’ve been here for about two
months—long enough to meet a few of you
and know that I will love working here,
Our family has lived just south of town for
11 years. My husband, Doug, is a technical
services veterinarian for Hy-Line. Our four
sons are growing fast and starting to try
their wings. Than goodness I have only one
more to reach how to drive!
The six years I spent in the Children’s
Department of the Urbandale Library and
five years of volunteering at St. Pius X
School Library have provided a solid
perspective and I look forward to the new
challenges and opportunities our small
town library presents.
With the support of Dallas Center’s businesses and schools, we’ve lined up a fun
children’s summer reading program. I
hope to see oodles of kids here all summer long for the weekly reading challenges, puzzles and special events.

Looking Around for God
By James A. Autry
Encourage others to read a
book of essays and poems?? Try it!
These “oddly reverent observations
of an unconventional Christian”
will make you smile, give you wet
eyes and help you come to grips
with your own beliefs.
Jim Autry lives in Des Moines,
is author of many business management and poetry books, is a retired
Meredith executive, husband of the
former Lieutenant Governor Sally
Pederson and father of an autistic
son.
The author finds God at a Roosevelt High School track meet
when his autistic son is about to try
to run with his shoes on the wrong
feet. He finds angels among us—a
school bus driver, a supermarket
cashier. He pauses to read the
obituaries of people he never
knew.
He brings up questions we often fear to ask about religion and
our churches. No matter how you
feel about his opinions, his sincerity and honesty will never be in
doubt.

The Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan
This is the third book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series. The First Book is The Lightening Thief and the
second book is The Sea of Monsters. The main characters are Percy and Annabeth. Grover, the Satyr is their friend.
They encounter other creatures of Greek Mythology throughout the book.
Percy and his friends have to look for more half bloods, which are kids who have a God for a parent, so they can build
the army to fight the Titan Kronus. The story takes place in present day, at Camp Half-Blood. Percy and his friends
interact with Greek people. The goal of Percy and his friends is trying to save Artemis, who is a Goddess, before the
Winter Solstice.
I really liked this book because it tells you about Greek Mythology in a fictiony way.
