New Student
Orientation Day 1 Details
8:30 a.m. | Registration | Curtis Hall
Check in with our orientation staff to receive your room key and New Student Orientation
packet!
8:30 - 9:50 a.m. | MMA Meet and Greet | Curtis Hall Courtyard
Once you have checked in at registration and dropped your belongings off in your room,
you will have the opportunity to speak with various representatives from around campus.
In addition to meeting members of our community, you will also take a Student ID photo,
receive orientation swag, and be able to sign up for your Friday night Waterfront activity!
10:00 - 10:30 a.m. | Welcome | Delano Auditorium
Join the student orientation staff and academy administration and hear an overview of the
day’s activities.
10:30 - 11:30 a.m. | Meet Your Group! | Various Locations
Members of our student orientation staff will meet with their groups of students. You will get
a chance to meet some of your classmates and go over the orientation schedule. You and your
group will attend all sessions and activities together on Day 1.
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. | Lunch | Alfond Student Center, Dining Hall
An introduction to the Mess Deck! We encourage you to eat with your groups and get to
know each other.
12:30 - 1:00 p.m. | Healthy Living | Delano Auditorium
Representatives from Health Services, Counseling Services, and Dining Services will speak
about resources that are offered for taking care of yourself throughout your college education
and beyond.
1:10 - 1:40 p.m. | Academic Expectations | Delano Auditorium
Academic Administrators will discuss the academic transition from high school to college.
1:50 - 2:20 p.m. | What’s Your Major? | Various Locations
You will meet with other students who are pursuing the same major!
2:30 - 3:30 p.m. | Registration 101 | Delano Auditorium
The Registrar’s Office will discuss your academic plan, course registration, and walk you
through the student portal so you can register for courses as soon as you get home!
3:30 - 4:30 p.m. | Financing Your Education | Delano Auditorium
Financial Aid and Student Billing representatives will talk about financing your education,
highlight important financial deadlines, and demonstrate where to find important billing
information in the student portal.
4:30 - 5:30 p.m. | Dinner | Alfond Student Center, Dining Hall
After dinner you will be headed to the waterfront for various activities.
5:30 - 8:30 p.m. | Welcome to the Waterfront | Waterfront Campus

This session offers advice on helping students make a successful transition to college.
Topics covered include tips on how to make those “difficult” conversations with students
go more smoothly, how to help students make the transition from dependent at home to
independent college students, and issues facing college students today. Even if you have
older students in college, this is a session you don’t want to miss!

offer! Meet up with your student for the closing session at 2:15 p.m. in Delano Auditorium.

Fort Knox was established in 1844 to protect the Penobscot River valley against a possible
future British naval incursion. The newly constructed Penobscot Narrows Bridge boasts an
observation tower, rising 420’ above sea level, which may only be accessed through the Fort.
Acadia National Park
Approximately 47 miles, 1 hour 10 minutes

Acadia National Park is a 47,000-acre Atlantic coast recreation area primarily on Maine’s
Mount Desert Island. Its landscape is marked by woodland, rocky beaches and glacierscoured granite peaks like Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the United States’ East
Coast. The bayside town of Bar Harbor, with restaurants and shops, is a popular gateway.
Ellsworth
Approximately 32 miles, 40 Minutes | ellsworthmaine.gov
Ellsworth is the county seat of Hancock County. It is the largest shopping district in Hancock
County, with several shopping centers and many large stores, as well as many restaurants to
choose from.
Bangor
Approximately 38 miles, 55 Minutes | bangormaine.gov
Bangor is the largest market town, transportation hub, and media center in a five-county
area. Outdoor activities in the Bangor City Forest and other nearby parks and waterways
include hiking, canoeing, and fishing. Bangor provides many shopping and dining
opportunities.
Belfast
Approximately 36 miles, 50 minutes | cityofbelfast.org
A quaint waterfront town of 6,600, their Main Street has many wonderful dining and
shopping opportunities, and a varied selection of the arts. Contact the Belfast Chamber of
Commerce for current art and music festivals.
Maine Maritime Waterfront Activities:
We have scheduled a few activities in Castine for families and guests on Day 2. Registration is
held on Day 1 at the Meet and Greet and Family and Guest Social. Space is limited.
