Directions: Respond to the prompts below. Follow the directions for each. 1. Choose one of the six pillars. Define the pillar IN YOUR OWN WORDS. This definition can be several sentences long. Your final product must be typed and formatted thoughtfully. Don’t forget to type up a final copy of #1 to submit. 2. Find a famous quotation that relates to the pillar you chose. Properly cite the speaker of the quote, where the quote was published and/or where you found the quotation. Example from a book: “Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.”

3. Write a scenario in prose depicting the pillar in action. In other words, provide an example of the pillar as it relates to some event or experience in a book, a film, a song, the world, or history. (Hint: Remember the connections: text, world, history.) 4. Write a poem (any style, any length) about your pillar. Include at least 3 of the following: figurative language and sound devices. Consider incorporating some of the ideas that you wrote about in #s 1-­‐3.
