Announcements by various members:
Dave O’Grady led discussion on catering support for the Wagga Cycle Classic that needs BBQ and
coffee support for Sunday 16th June: a folder was doing the rounds for members to indicate
availability to assist. Proceeds from this go to Ronald McDonald house – a great charity that
supports our community in and out of Wagga Wagga.
Wagga Wagga Rotary Club is hosting another Darkness To Light
fundraiser (to send Ashok Sharma and his team to perform eye
surgery in Indian villages) is being held at Mater Dei College on
17th August. Marilyn Walter indicated she would be attending
and looking at making up a table from the Club. Food supplied

DIRECTORS’ REPORTS:
P E Peter Gissing spoke re the new directories being available: a vital resource to enable us to be
better informed.
Denise Flock ton presented President Val with a banner from the
Rotary Club of Holbrook where she was a guest speaker. We need to
send or arrange a banner for them.
Bob Martin indicated that he was bringing the club numbers on the
balls used in our raffle barrel up to date (various ribaldries surfaced at
this point….)
President Val invited Bob to speak on his current overseas trip.
Bob gave a short presentation that all members hope he will cover in
more detail in the future.
The fly leg of the trip saw Bob and Carolyn flew into L A, then to Las
Vegas, Miami, Phoenix (a cruise on the Harbour) then a driverless train, then came the ship
component: a Norwegian boat. Cruised the Panama Canal where they are building new locks to
cater for larger ships (the current operation is very tight and is worked by a series of cables and
winches that allows the ships to work their way through the locks). Then to Costa Rica where the
local economy has moved from agriculture to e-commerce as a main
revenue stream. It’s known as the Switzerland of Central America,
there being no military presence. Then onto various ports in Mexico,
beaches and the like, great fishing (marlin). Bob said being processed
by US customs is a nightmare. This was perhaps a response to the
Boston Bombings that had just happened.
Other places of interest were the Alaskan areas, Seattle Space facility,
Vancouver and the Rocky Mountains, Calgary then home.
(right: Bob Martin recounting his brush with the locals…)
A fantastic trip that really opened our eyes..
SERGEANT-AT-ARMS: Sergeant Noelene then went about extracting
money for the following fines: (see below)
Those who have not had a win on Keno (Many were heard
asking what is it)
Those who have not lost their mobile phones recently
Those who have not had to ring their phone to find it
Those not watching A place to call Home (not the ET types)
Those in the newspaper
Those not in The Keyway
Those who had not cleaned
cupboards recently.
A certain member who had her
mobile phone ring during a
performance at the Civic Theatre
Those who didn’t attend the excellent Ten x Ten plays
David Gilbey for his restrained dress.
(right: Darren Verus counting fines…)
David Gilbey cross-fined anyone who was not going to The Threepenny
Opera.
Fine total: $63.35
CLUB ASSEMBLY: President Elect Peter Gissing spoke on the year
ahead and drew many of his plans from our ‘Future Visioning’
workshop that was held over two years ago. It was an interactive
presentation with many members responding to the features that
Peter spoke about. . One of the main messages was that Peter will be
involved as President and Director. He is looking for the various
directors to pick up the ball and run with it. The directors will be
responsible for seeking people that they would like involved and
progress the direction of our club We need to be aware that each
Rotary year is an opportunity to work on the good things of each year,
rethink, refine and act to improve them. We should also be aware that
we need to look outside the box to come up with new ideas that will
raise our profile and also much needed funds for the myriad of projects that we support.
Membership is an obvious area that involves us all as club members.
President Val Samuelson thanked Peter for his presentation and was also applauded by the club
members.
Ray Goodlass was the lucky winner of the weekly prize.
