The Cabin EC British Showjumping, Aberdeenshire The sun shone on North East showjumpers at the Cabin Equestrian Centre’s adult British Showjumping show on June 6-8 at Inverurie. It has to be hats-off to Newmachar-based rider Lesley Ross, who, with her own Bob (show name Everlong) and Princess (show name Pereusa) dominated both the British Novice/90cm and Discovery/1m classes notching up four first place wins – and a second! “Both horses were on form. It’s so much nicer when the sun shines. Both horses jumped very well. I tried for three out of three wins for princess but Skye and Jules Coburn are just too quick to catch!” Lesley’s employer Plexus Ocean Systems will be sponsoring her for the 2014 season. She was quick to praise the quality of the tracks designed by Colin Hexley. Lesley is a regular face at The Cabin’s British Showjumping competitions. Cabin Equestrian owner Fiona Quennell rode not one but three horses in Friday’s classes, notching up a first place win in the opening class of the day the 80cm open on Go Again and adding a second on Thornfield Flight in the British Novice and a third on the coloured gelding Apache Flash in the Discovery. Also in the spotlight was Aberdeen-based Kaleigh Spalding on Dolous. The pair won the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers in style on Sunday, June 8 after warming up with a third place win in Friday’s class. Dolous is a six year old by Tangelo Van De Zutthoeve imported by Kayleigh from Holland as an unbroken four year old. “He felt great on Sunday, I pushed him against the clock and he answered every question I gave him. He feels really good and fresh and ready for the summer ahead. “I am currently trying to get my four newcomer double clears for 2015 where he will be a year older and more ready for the Regionals which can be quite testing. We have a couple of Newcomer second rounds I want to do this month and next for the experience. He is my horse of a lifetime” The closing class of both Saturday and Sunday was the Bliss of London 1.30m open championship qualifier. This hotly contested class saw big guns blazing with a first place win for Fraser McDonald on Saturday on Paris III with Sally Coull on Palmano hot on his heels. Fraser also enjoyed a first place in Sunday’s Horse and Hound Foxhunter with Sally winning the class on Saturday. Sunday’s 1.30m saw the red ribbons going to Aimee Bell on Cameron Poe. The Cabin Equestrian Centre is now revving up for its’ 10 day adult British Showjumping Sunshine Tour on July 4 with a staggering eight days of showjumping.
