Shifting Cultivation Label

Name:
Shifting Cultivation
Label:
SC
Map Code: 6
Description: Shifting cultivation refers to a system in which relatively short periods of
continuing cultivation are followed by relatively long periods of fallow. A
destinction may be made between (a) closed tree formations which are
essentially broadleaved and cover a large part of the ground or all of it with
their different strata and undergrowth and in general do not have a continuous
herbaceous stratum and (b) open tree formations, whose canopy is generally
not closed and which are essentially the mixed broadleaved forest-grassland
formations of the semi-humid and dry tropics.
