Volume 13
Issue 1
From Our Pastor
As we begin 2017, let’s recommit to our church’s purpose statement: to love God, love one another, and love our world.
To grow in our love for God, we must grow in our knowledge and understanding of Him through His Word. Let me
challenge you to make a fresh commitment to reading and applying God's Word in the coming year.
We have a Bible reading plan (available at each main entrance to the church) which breaks up the readings into 1 N.T.
reading and 2 O.T. readings each day (allowing you to read through the entire N.T. and either the entire O.T. or half of the
O.T. in a year). This plan will allow you to read through the entire Bible in 2017 in about 15 minutes per day. So you can
get started now, I’ve copied the first several days of the reading plan below.

2nd Year
Pick which plan you would like to follow. I would love for everyone in the church to
commit to read through at least the New Testament this year. You can accomplish
that goal in just 5 minutes per day!

For the Scripture Memory verses for 2017, I’ve selected the Sermon on the Mount
(Matthew 5-7). By memorizing 2-3 verses per week, we can hide these precious
truths in our hearts where we can access them 24/7. Consider committing to doing
this with your family, friends, or perhaps your Sunday School class or Small Group.
Let’s also make 2017 a year in which we seek to serve God. Brent or I will be
contacting you during the month of January to discuss your role on one of WBBC’s
ministry teams.
We have had a wonderful year as a church in 2016, and I anticipate more of God’s
blessings in 2017 as we seek to love Him and serve Him..

From Our Associate Pastor
Happy New Year! 2016 is gone and 2017 has begun. I want to thank everyone who participated and supported the
music ministry of West Broadway in this past year. I especially wish to thank the Children’s Choir and the
Sanctuary Choir for their hard work and wonderful presentations of their respective Christmas musicals in
December. I also want to thank everyone who works with me in the children’s music ministry: Joyce Dennison,
Carla Schindler, Cathy Mattingly, and Mile Nelson. I want to give a special thanks to Cheryl Fekete who organized
the fellowship meal following our Sanctuary Choir musical. Finally, I want to thank everyone who went to the
Atria and brought joy to the residents there with our annual caroling.
Our choirs will be taking a bit of a break from rehearsals but will still be helping to lead us in worship this month.
Although the choirs are on break, the music ministry is busy preparing for the new ministry season. I covet your
prayers as I listen to and examine new music for Easter and our weekly choral anthems and worship music.
I want ot thank everyone who made our homebound folks feel loved this Christmas season through various visits
and gifts. Please continue to pray for our homebound and those who are battling long illnesses. I appreciate our
deacons and the care ministry that they are involved in with all of our church members. I look forward to working
with our church as we seek to follow the Lord’s will for our church in our community and our world.
In Christ’s love,
Brent

To Our WBBC Family,
The Personnel Committee along with Pastor Tim and
Pastor Brent are very pleased to announce to the
Church the decision to hire Carol Nelson as the new
Administrative Assistant. Carol has assumed the role in
an interim capacity for the last two months and proved
herself to be an asset to the staff and church leaders.
Her official start date will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
Her regular office hours will be Tuesday through Friday
9:00-3:30. Please keep in mind that Sunday is her day
to worship along with her church family, not another
work day. Please join us in wishing her well in her new
position.
Thank you,
WBBC Personnel Committee
January is a time of new beginnings. Many start out the new year making resolutions to help
them with things like exercising or saving money. Have you taken inventory of your spiritual
life lately? How much time are you spending in God’s Word? How often do you pray? Are
you active in Sunday school and church?
Take the time now, before the new year, to lay out your spiritual priorities. The old saying
goes, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” One thing that may help you build the habit of
establishing a daily quiet time is the Daily Devo. This is a short audio devotional that I publish
every day. It is about a minute or so long. Each devotional is accompanied by a short Bible
passage to help you apply God’s Word to your life.
To sign up, just text the message @wbbcdevo to the phone number 81010 . Once signed up,
you will get a text message every morning at 6:30am with a link to the Daily Devo. Also, you
can send me prayer requests and I will make a point to specifically pray for your request.
Let’s make 2017 the year we draw closer to God than we have ever been!
Yours faithfully,
Adam Burton

West Broadway Baptist Church children’s ministry exist to teach, reach, encourage and excite our children to glorify God.
The Children’s Ministry Team meets to pray and plan for our children’s ministry. We discuss our ministry
strengths and identify areas of need in the Nursery, Preschool, and Children areas. We also address policy,
Procedures, and programming. The Children’s Ministry Team meets one Sunday three times a year following
the morning worship 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. We enjoy a potluck lunch with the Youth Ministry Team then the
Children’s Ministry Team meets. We focus on our vision and mission when planning all ministry opportunities.
Teach our children strong Biblical foundations.
Reach our children, families and community for Christ.
Encourage our children to live out the gospel.
Excite our children about knowing God more fully.
