Increased achievement in Swimming Currently in the Second year of a programme/timetable to ensure that pupils have access to a sustained and meaningful series of swimming lessons. Previously pupils had lessons for 6 weeks per academic year – Progress was identified as slow as 6 x 30 minute lessons didn’t provide sufficient opportunity for development. A new programme concentrating on a greater number of consecutive lessons over fewer academic years has begun to show results. The number of swimming lessons potentially available to each child over their school career has increased to 72 sessions (previously was 42). Impact is demonstrated in the tables below:Level of Achievement September 2013 Group 1 (Year 4 - Year 6) Group 2 (Year 3 - Year 5) Group 3 (Year 2 - Year 4) Group 4 (Year 1 - Year 3) No. in class Happy in the Water Black Red Green More Advanced Swimmers Achieved 25m NC Target 25 25 22 28 22 13 6 7 15 11 4 6 7 7 1 0 5 2 0 0 2 1 0 0 8 5 0 0 Tables show same cohorts of children two years apart.
