Janaseva Foundation has completed it’s yet another memorable year in which it completed
28 years.

Inspired by the teachings and spirit of service of Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi, Sane
Guruji, Baba Amte and Saint Mother Teresa foundation has been serving the society for

Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, recommended Janaseva Foundation,
Pune, Maharashtra, to have a Regional Resource Training Centre under the Scheme of
Integrated Programme for Older Persons (IPOP) for the years 2013-2014, 2014-2015

Old age Homes
Late Haribhai V. Desai Old age Home (Built up area 3760 sq. ft.)
Shri Rasiklal Manikchand Dhariwal Old age Home (Built up area 4834 sq.ft)
Mrs. Icharjbai Chunnilal Khivansara Old age Home (Built up area 2190 sq.ft.)
Due to rising population, urbanization, small houses, disintegration of joint family system
and changing living values has adversely affected the society and particularly the elderly.
This has affected elderly from both poor and well to do families.
Initially Dr. Shah reserved a few cots for the elderly in the hired Sonapur hospital and
thus began foundations old age homes where 30 elderly could be accommodated. Later on
after formation of Janaseva Foundation with the help of generous donation from Shri
Nitinbhai Desai was constructed Late. Shri. Haribhai V. Desai old age home. About 50
Page 7 of 43
elderly can be accommodated here. Janaseva Foundation has built 16 special rooms as
extension of Desai Oldage Homes with the help of generous donation from Shri Nitinbhai
Desai.
However, later even this was found to be insufficient to accommodate ever rising influx of
elderly. Therefore second old age home was constructed with the donation received from
Shri Rasiklal Manikchand Dhariwal and Mrs. Shobha Dhariwal and hence it is named
Shri Rasiklal Manikchand Dhariwal old age home. It can accommodate about 50
elderly.
With the donation received from Khivansara family Smt. Icharajbai Chunnilal
Khivansara old age home came into existence for 20 senior citizens who can pay some
money.
Approximately 150 elderly from poor, middle class and affluent families live happily here.
Personal attention, 24 hours healthcare and friendly atmosphere, nutritious and tasty food
are the some of the features of these old age homes. Approximately 20 to 25 mentally
disabled are also given admission here along with 40 to 50 physically disabled elderly. As
our rural hospital old age homes and nursing school and wardboy aaya training school are
in the same complex they get round the clock health care. The number of elderly persons
who were accommodated in our Old age home was as follows:

Kitchen garden
Foundation has built a kitchen garden around the Oldage Homes. Here Senior Citizens
spend their time in doing various works as per their capacity which keeps them engaged
and physically active.
Dairy project – Cow shed
Taking into account the need of milk for the elderly and the patients, foundation’s well
wisher the Rotary Club Pune Riverside Rotarian Ishwar Uttamchandani and Mrs.
Minoo Uttamchandani gave donations for dairy project and every year they are giving
some maintenance Started with 2 Jersey cows, this project now has 6 Jersey cows, 6
buffalos, 3 cow-calves and 4 buffalo-calves. Approximately 50 - 70 liters of milk is
obtained per day. Thus our elderly inmates, patients and nursing school students get pure
milk. Of late milk production has gone down and for this we have sought expert opinion
through our advisor Col. (Retd.) K.C. Mishra.
Physiotherapy Centers
Taking into account special need of the disabled and elderly for physiotherapy, foundation
has made this service available at its rural hospital, Ambi, Day Care Centre, Aundh Road
and at Erandwane with the help of Lions Club of Pune Aundh Pashan and PMC.
Foundation has appointed trained physiotherapist at these well equipped centers. Village
Development Council of England had donated for purchase of physiotherapy equipments
for physiotherapy centre at Ambi. This centre needed renovation and repair, replacement
and addition of physiotherapy equipments. GIVE India through donor gave donation for
the same. With the help of this donation, the foundation has also purchased mobile
physiotherapy equipments which are carried in our mobile medical units and patients are
given physiotherapy at their doorsteps.

GIVE India is a grant disbursement organization. Janaseva Foundation is one of the listed

profusely thank GIVE India for helping us for last 10-12 years.
Destitute Rehabilitation Centre
[Total land = 5 acres, Built up – 11951.25 (1110 sq. m.)]
We would like to emphasis to all our donors / well wishers that it is a concept with a
difference. It is not merely a centre where men, women, children and destitute would be
kept and looked after. The difference is that we would strive our best to look after them,
their health and identify their aptitudes and train them to make a living. This would
eventually bring back confidence in them and on the support that we shall be providing
them, would help them feel that they are not destitute anymore but are able to be on their
own and lead a life by entering the main stream of the society.
Taking inspiration from the letter received from mother Teresa and her visit, foundation
decided to do something for the destitute. Towards this cause, end Chairman Dr. Vinod
Shah, Mrs. Meena Shah and other trustees visited mother Teresa’s centre almost all over
the country.
However, foundation decided that its destitute centre should try to rehabilitate the
destitutes by giving them vocational training along with accommodation and food to the
destitute. This project is situated in picturesque Katraj Ghat on 5 acres of land. It received
a real impetus when Counsel General of Japan given donation of Rs. 43.4 lakhs and very
soon Destitute Rehabilitation Centre was built. The bhoomi Pujan was done by the
auspicious hands of Hon’ble Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, then the Chief Minister of
Maharashtra on 25th August 2002.
Our social workers meets the destitute & visits railway station, Sassoon General Hospital,
bus stops, foot paths. We talk to them and those who are willing to come to the centre are
then brought to the centre after informing the nearby police station. These destitute are
homeless and helpless but not hopeless. We take complete history and they are checked
for the health, various ailments and diseases. Then they are given bath and clothes to wear
along with food. They are given medicines and their health is monitored continuously. All
the necessary help is provided by the foundation. As per their age, education and skill
suitable vocational training is provided which includes, computer training, bakery,
nursing, making different articles, jewelry and ornaments, stitching, tailoring, embroidery
etc. For illiterate destitute we arrange broom making training along with chalk making, file
making etc.
Along with men and women we also admit child destitute or children from poor broken
families. We have been given permission to keep the children by Social Welfare Dept. of
Govt. of Maharashtra. This year there are about 35 children staying with us. We have
enrolled them in school and special provision is made assisting them in their studies at the
centre. We teach them good manner and behavior, cleanliness and hygiene. There is
entertainment and sports facility at the centre along with a park with swings see-saw etc.
Besides this we also admit disabled destitute. This programme is sponsored by
Rampadma Godbole Pratishthan & Dr. Jayant Navarange is the moving force behind
it.

To empower the girls, women and divorcees from poor families and to fulfill the need of
the society foundation has started nursing school from August 2002.
This school came into existence through handsome donation given by foundation’s patron

the school. This school conducts 2 years A.N.M. nursing training for the 12th pass girls.
We give preference to the girls from rural area of Konkan. We also admit students who are
unable to pay their fees and the foundation tries to raise funds for them. Lion Madanbhai
Sura is inchage in making the corpus fund for Nursing School. Now school has been
granted permission to admit 30 students per year. This school is recognized by the
Maharashtra Nursing Council, Mumbai& Indian Nursing Council, New Dehli. The result

Maharashtra to BC, OBC, SC students.
